We had a really nice long visit with Tucker yesterday. Very different from Patches, but so sweet. He's still just a baby at 3 1/2, so puberty can change a lot, I know. He feels like a little porker at 453g where Patches was consistent at 401-405. Just larger overall. Red sided vs grand.

I haven't jumped in yet, but I feel like he may come home with me before long. House prep is needed for his enormous cage, so I will need to reconfigure my living room, etc.

So... Here he is...

Aw he’s a cutie!

He’s long past puberty. It usually happens in smaller Ekkie subspecies aroun 18-24 months. So you’re safe.

congratulations, I hope I can open my heart again
Oh, I hope you can as well. Oliver and Patches can never be replaced. The hole in the heart will never be filled, but there's still room in there somewhere. Some sage advice given to me - when it's right and you're ready, you'll know. I was lucky enough to have met another little guy in need, purely by chance. I'm not completely sure if I'm ready yet, but I am feeling like he needs me, and spending time with him is helping me feel happier. I still cry for Patches, my best friend. His gentle soul, his silly personality, his constant demand for beaky birdie kisses, singing to me in the shower every morning, and him always being ready to pose for pictures that would show the love and joy in his eyes. Those are some of the things I will keep forever, thanks to my best friend. With some luck, something like that can happen again. It won't be the same, but it's worth trying. Different is okay, like all kids, just different.

So, when you're ready, I hope you will share your life and home and love with another friend in need. Even with the heartache right now, I think it's worth it. Maybe soon, maybe years, but please don't give up. There will be someone out there who needs you, and you'll just know.

Wow, Tucker is crazy-cute! His sweet little Ekkie face just melts my heart. I hope he finds a home as part of your family. :)

I've always thought it would be harder to lose a fid if you had no other fid's in your family. That's not to say that losing one fid would hurt any less just because you have another. My point was that having an other fid in your life after losing one helps make the pain of loss more bearable. The hole left in your heart is just as big and hurts just a much, but there is love and comfort in not being alone, in having an other fid who shares your hurt and your heart and still needs you and loves you and reminds you that life goes on. Just my two cents anyway. :)

Good luck my friend, whatever happens!

My son loves him, and Tucker is super tolerant with him. We went for another visit today. He would have come home with us, but my living room isn't ready for his cage yet. It's big! I'm thinking next weekend, I hope.

We found out that he likes to hang upside down from my hand and be swung back to and forth like that, and lay on his back in my hand. Starting to really trust me I guess. He's so sweet!

Now just to add some confusion to the mix, I met a YNA that reportedly doesn't like men at all, that fell in love with me. She's 18 years old and has been there for about a year. I'm the first guy she has allowed to handle her. She snuggled in on my shoulder against my neck, put her head down for skritches, and closed her eyes. She was in her glory.

I'm not going to bail on Tucker, he has won me over. I would love to have both of them, but I don't know if I could devote enough time if we had two. And, of course, being an Amazon, she would definitely need to have a meeting with my wife to even consider it. Why must these babies pull at my heart strings so hard???

They do pull hard on those heartstrings, especially when they take a shine to us. Just take your time and do lots of pondering about having a second bird, things will end up the way they should in the end. I’m so glad that Tucker is going home with you - your family is so obviously perfect for him :)

Good morning one and all. We had a really productive day yesterday, and my living room is now prepared for little Tucker and his giaganto cage! He's coming home on Saturday or before if I can get there with my schedule. So excited! He'll never replace my little boy Patches, but it feels right.

Now, for my other dilemma... I told my wife about Baxter, the YNA, knowing full well she would say one is enough, no more. She caught me off guard with the thought that two might be good for them to have some birdie company. Tucker has lived his whole, life in a two bird home. (The other being a Patagonian that he always stole the veggies from. Sorry Gail, he's already been adopted lol)

I guess it's time for some testing of the waters to see if these two are compatible, and to see if Miss Baxter is okay with my wife. Until she met me, she was quite specific- women with short hair only, hence the year at the refuge. (Wife has long hair) Made me feel special! Oh, what have I started here?! Never had more than one birdie at a time, so it's soul searching time...

Wish me luck!

LOL that is easy: because they know a good thing when they see it! :41:

Hope the amazon has a really good eye for a great opportunity (aka your wife) ... it would be fun it it was an overall match!

(You make Patches proud btw. Giving another ekkie a great life with lots of love.)

I'm so happy for your family and the magnificent Tucker! Looking forward to hearing the details of Tucker's homecoming. Sounds like the Amazon may also find a comfortable perch with you, I hope Miss Baxter and your wife love each other at first glance, can't wait to hear about this first meeting.
