He is a character, but an absolute bugger to feed.

Still on 4 feeds a day, taking formula from spoon to start, but he looses interests after the first 4, so I crop or syringe tip about 20mLs then the takes more spoons until he is just wanting to cuddle so I crop the last amounts in to ensure that he is taking between 35 - 40mls per feed.

Good weight and taking the formula now between 44 and 46 degrees.

Morning are his best feeding times, with more spoons then crop. Hope you can see the pics, not sure how to upload on this site.

Welcome!

I don't know enough about hand-feeding to add or comment, but I do know an adorable little chick when I see one!

We have a great community of Eclectus partonts here. I'm glad you found us!

This is *not* meant as critisism, I am just amazed.... if a bird tells you "I am full/ had enough" you will still "top him off" by forcing more formula inside it?
Is that necessary?

He is an adorable baby... I hope you have many many happy decades with this little fellow.

Hi, I will top him up, particularly if it is unwillingness to feed. Its okay if one feed is low volume and the next higher or more normal, for example approx 40mLs for first feed and 25mLs for second, but if his third feed is low volume and longer than 45minutes to achieve, than I will top up and find his last feed is good and normal volume.

I dont have to do it every feed and in fact, he is curious enough to take the formula from the spoon, but gets bored, so the plastic tip of the syringe excites him for a bit more, and then finally the tip of the crop needle, he will either take from there or stretch up on the crop needle therefore I feed that amount.

He is a good weight, very affectionate and getting confidence in letting me know when he wants bed time, cuddles or some little struts and stretching.
