Boarding or house visits in CT

I'm in Connecticut and one of the biggest struggles for us is figuring out what to do with our Eclectus when we go on vacation. We've had a house sitter but the house sitter only shows up at 8 PM and leaves at 5 AM - she gives our Eclectus little to no attention as she's not a bird pet owner.

Does anyone know of a good Boarding house or pet sitter in CT? We used Parrots & Company in Stamford, CT but they would not let us see the boarding room. We left for 4 days and when we came back he was miserable. That to me was a deal breaker for letting him go back to Parrots and Company.

But I'm struggling to find good options for him.

What about a certified dog walker? As long as the parrot is OK being in his cage all you really need for a short period like 4 days or a week is someone to come in, change the food and water cups, and spend a half hour sitting by the cage talking to him.

Most good dog walkers love any type of animal and are astute enough to notice when something's wrong.

I would be very cautious about boarding, simply due to the fact that (for boarding purposes/contagion issues) it is impossible to effectively test for disease like ABV/PDD/PBFD (Yes- there are tests, but with such lengthy incubation periods and intermittent viral shedding, a single test isn't enough to certify a clean bill of health). A bird could be a carrier and test negative unless actively shedding the virus at the time, so even a negative result isn't a sure thing and these tests aren't cheap. Consequently, lots of birds run around spreading things without anyone knowing it and many diseases can be spread by feather dust, droppings, and feathers themselves. These means that unless a facility has its own separate air ducts that they clean regularly (per bird enclosure), then you are taking a risk by boarding (especially at a vet's office where many sick birds are likely to visit). I have had to board my bird before, but if you have a choice, I would get in-home care. Preferably someone who doesn't have a bunch of birds at home, as certain diseases can be transmitted via human hair/clothing etc (carriers of feather dander/dust). That may sound paranoid, but it's true. Also, in most cases, if you board your bird, they will stay in the cage and get limited interaction (aside from passive interaction). Don't get me wrong...there are exceptions to this rule, but then you are definitely looking at a situation where asymptomatic disease exposures could occur (assuming handlers would go between birds).

Again, not saying you can never board, but the other option is far safer for your bird.

In South Florida there are places that board only parrots, they require annual vet physicals and testing. The bird vet I use also has a portion of his clinic dedicated to boarding, separate from the sick bays.

Still a heartbreaking situation for me. At home we keep our conure outside of the cage, he is on my husbands shoulder for hours sometimes, only goes inside the day cage when we run errands, and even then he comes with us to some places. Leaving him for a week or so inside a cage is such a drastic change I hate it.

I wish there was someone close by that feels similar and we could exchange "baby sitting" chores once we get the know each other's birds and their habits.
Would ensure there's no exposure to diseases and at the same time they could continue most of they daily routines for that week
