Molly and Bosley. They both left home and have partners now. Come back to feed sometimes. Just have Sonny an Ecky... more than enough
We've finally found what Sonny will come down from the trees for and it's fish oil gels. He is allowed out about 3 times a week if the wind is less than 15 knots and all the wild birds seem to be happy.... they know when there's danger around.
I've tried bits of macadamia nuts etc but it seems that fish oil gels will bring him out of a tree ( where he cannot be seen ) in about 10 seconds. Who would have thought ?? He really loves to fly outside where he can dodge and weave etc and be a real bird, makes the eclectus screech as he flies around the place too and joins the rainbow lories on the branches of the trees. They all know him now. Coming up to 10 months old now.

Cairo the Ekkie!
Haha, reminds me of when Cairo got lost and we found him playing in the trees. He would swoop down as if he was going to land on us, then cheekily fly in circles around us before going back to the trees. I had to rush home to pick up his 'magic box of treats' (a small plastic box) - the moment I came back and opened it up in front of him, he immediately came down, beak searching for his treats :p

Lucky your Sonny boy gets to fly - our local wildlife population has too many diseases, enough that local vets know the free-flying community has contracted and spread the diseases amongst themselves.

The local birds seem to be very healthy at the present time. I had to catch a couple of birds 3 years ago and hit them between 2 pieces of wood... not easy !!! They had some beak and feather disease which is more in Queensland than here, although I've seen cockatoos with it in Sydney which is 500 miles south of here. i think I'd rather be a bird than a human though especially around here !!

Why kill of a wild bird with PBFD that is still functioning well?

There as so many wild parrots out there is it useless to do that-- it will not 'contain/prevent an outbreak' or something like that.

PBFD now is believed to orginate from Australia, so it is humans and their exporting diseased birds all over the world that has turned this into a global problem...

These birds were so sick I could pick them up by hand so it seemed kinder to finish them off, they could barely fly.... if you can call it that. Also unable to eat. They were rainbow lories. They had a nice burial too.
