Wondering what toys or activities your eclectus really enjoys? I just got my guy a week ago and he came with a bunch of toys but besides his swings doesn't really seem to play with any. Placing an order for some stuff for him and want to get him some stuff for a play gym I am building for my office but don't want to waste money on stuff he might never use. Figured I might ask here for some suggestions (with links or brand names so can look up) for him. Thanks in advance.

Hello, and welcome to the Parrot Forums family!

One thing that I've noted about ekkie toy preferences over the years is a love for softer woods. All of my eclectus parrots have fully enjoyed softer woods, whereas only Maya also enjoys the harder woods. They also love shreddable materials.

Homemade stuff is great for this (and also more gentle on the wallet), with paper and cardboard (just watch out for glues or toxic prints).

My ekkies also love seagrass mats with soft wood toys and even some plastic ones tied on. Here are examples:

And here is what I did with their tree stands:

Fabulous, Stephen! the master at work!

My Ekkie is primarily about shreddable toys, bells, and foraging toys. Especially foraging toys. A foraging wheel could keep him busy for an hour or more.

All other toys are ignored. I WISH Parker would play with anything wood.

So glad you mentioned the foraging toys, Chris! Keeping our ekkies mentally stimulated is HUGE!
