Male Eclectus on a leash

We are delighted with our new Eclectus. We just got him yesterday. Naturally he has already learned to imitate me snoring and one of the Chihuahuas barking (eyes rolling LOL) He talks a lot but we hope to increase his vocabulary.

Right now, we are letting him adjust to our home. He is 7 years old and has had minimal experience with kids and dogs. We have no kids but we have 10 miniature dogs currently in the house. 2 of them belong to my caregiver and stay in her room. We don't have all the dogs out at one time often unless it is back yard playtime. Usually they are out in groups of 1-3 based on their personalities. That gives us a chance to give all of them individual attention. Some are young, some are senior citizens. We also have a white homing pigeon who has been here 3 years.

Samson came from a home where he was loved very much. He has taken a dislike to my husband who will not listen to me and leave him alone until Samson comes to him. When my husband approaches his cage, Samson grabs this rope toy, shakes it violently and growls.

Here's my question. Samson has only had his wings clipped once. Normally, his previous parents said he rarely flew but preferred to walk around the house. I am a recent amputee and am trying to learn to walk with a prosthetic leg. Currently I have to use a walker with it but I will need to walk a lot, first with the walker and then without. I am afraid of losing Samson. I would like to walk with him on my shoulder. Can I put some sort of leash on him? Even with his wings clipped, if he glides off, I can't catch him.

If I can leash him, where would I find an appropriate leash?

Nancy

Re: Male Eclectus on a leash

If he's seven, and never been leashed, it won't be easy. Here's what you are looking for, I think....
