Charlie Brown- SI Eclectus, RIP. Oliver aka Ollie - Vosmaeri Eclectus
We still haven't heard back from the vet on the results from all of Charlie's tests but we have done some research and found out that the red ring around his neck could be the result of an over production of estrogen when he was a baby, and may or may not go away during his first molting. Also it could be the result of a chromosome disorder such as an extra x chromosome resulting in an xxy male parrot. It all really depends on what he looks like after his first molt.

We also had a wonderful breakthrough that was so wonderful it made me cry like a new mom when their baby says mommy for the first time. After visiting the vet Charlie was grumpy and just angry for the rest of the day even after a very long nap not letting us anywhere near him without biting hard enough to hurt us. The very next day however it was like he was a different bird I was changing his food bowls and moving some of his toys around in his cage and he actually stepped on my hand on his own, I wasnt even trying to get him to step up or come out I just had my hand resting on one of his perches and he starting moving toward it!!!!! I thought he was going to nail me but I left my hand there and he gently mouthed me then just stood on my hand and let me pick him up and move him out of the cage!!! Ever since then we can do just about anything to him!!!!!!:D The only thing he won't let us do is pet his head but he will let us scratch under his wings.

No words yet but it sounds like he is trying to say good morning and he is starting to make barking noises which has me slightly worried lol. And he won't make noise or try to talk if we are paying him attention we have to ignore him or be another room for him to try.... Is that a common thing? Is he a shy boy? And another wonderful thing is that he is completely off seeds now and eating like a little pig and at least trying everything I put in front of him. I love my birdie so much!!!!

Sincerely,
Heather and Patrick

too much sad stuff on the board lately thought I'd try to lighten it up a bit. Lolita's story had me enraged and tearing up at the same time...

Yay! Thanks for posting. So sweet and nice to make that connection! My conure is very chatty when my fiance and I are around but is almost completely silent around strangers so they all try and get him to talk. Maybe he is warming up to being comfortable enough to talk around you. Maybe that will be his next big breakthrough!

My Cockatoo talks when I'm not paying attention to her, or in the otehr room more than when I am paying attention to her. She's usually content to play with me but if she needs to let me know something she will verbally communicate while on/near me however it is rare. Most of what she says when we're next to eachotehr playing is her name (Phoebe) in different accents and tones.

Way tp go Charlie Brown... is so great how the little things they do can make us so happy.

How old is Charlie? Do you have pictures.

I have been playing a CD everyday when I leave for work for Abby (Thanks Antoinette)
and when I get home she sure is trying to talk... Abby is 8 month old and she is a clown..
she loves her toys... If you have not gotten Charlie a ball then get one... it is so funny to watch them attack the ball and throw it around their cage or on the floor...

Keep us posted... Eckies are beautiful

There is an older post with pictures of Charlie in it and i posted some pictures in the funny stories thread....Charlie is eight or nine months we arent really sure the pet store couldnt give us a lot of information on him. And Charlie likes to play with balls too especially if they make noise.

We got back Charlie's test results and he had an elevated white blood cell count... everything else was normal but the vet wants us to bring him back to recheck his cbc.... She said it wasn't high enough to necessarily indicate illness or infection but then again it could be that he is in the beginning stages of some kind of illness.... We go back wednesday because that was the soonest i could get off work to take him. Also she recommended a polyo something vaccince... has anyone heard of this and what is your opinion on it if you have?
