Hello!

I've been searching for weeks to find a CAV (don't have a bird yet, but I like to plan ahead) and unfortunately my search isn't going so well 😡 (google generalized my search)
Anyone know of a site that has a list of CAV in north east Illinois/ South east Wisconsin area (like Kenosha Wisconsin or Gurnee IL area. I live half way between both locations willingto travel further).

I tried asking an aviary rescue that specializes in parrots but it is run by a vet who is not a certified aviary vet. (How is this even possible?????)

Do I need a CAV? It looks like this state doesn't have a CAV at all.

Yes I think a CAV makes all the difference, sometimes a life a d death difference for your soon to be birdie.

Thank you! Yes, I've been performing a ton of research and have learned that ekkies are a very special type of parrot and need to be treated as such. When I read their digestive track is different from other parrots, I knew a CAV was a must as they can't be treated the same.

I want to be prepared the best to my abilities before I get this bird.

I'll add to the Genie's good thoughts!

Certified Avian Vets
https://abvp.com/animal-owners/find-an-abvp-specialist/
If none are near you...
Avian Veterinarians
http://www.aav.org/search/custom.asp?id=1803
In my opinion, any of the vets listed here should be better than a regular vet.
International contacts, too.

Good for you for reaching out and researching!

Thank you thank you so much! I saved these to my phone.

Is 3 hours a long drive for the bird? The closest one is 3 hours away. Figured could stop at my grandma's house to give the bird a break on the way back. She's been parrot-less since the 80's. She had a cockiteal. Died from a house fire (the smoke).

No three hours is worth it!!!! I went 3 for one bird and 2.5 for rehoming the lovely Pikachu.
