Hey everyone, so I was on before saying that I am getting a wee grand Eclectus soon and I am getting the cage set up and starting to put in toys, perches etc. The cage is 6ft x 2.5ft x 2.5ft and I am just wondering if 1. Is the cage too big and 2. What do use thing of it so far. I am just starting to get everything organized and I will attach a photo of the cage which I have just set up.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :green2::green2:

I would agree that no cage is too big. The only thing that could be too big is the spacing of the bars. I wouldn't go over one inch on the spacing of the bars.

I see this kind of cage used a lot in the eclectus community, it's a good one. Can't wait to see it decked out with more perches and toys^^ definitely go with natural perches over the dowels!

I personally do not like corner cages as they loose a segment of internal space on the outer side. The result is that the Parrot has less space. Nice design for the Humans, not so nice for the Parrot.

Remember that there will be more than just the Parrot in side that cage.

FYI: Look for a full height door. You and your Parrot will enjoy the larger door.

Most corners cages don't like, but that one a good one due to the Hexagonal shape and don't lose much space. I just don't like the bottom grate design as my female U2 injured herself recently lifting it and it fell back on her, thankfully she recovered fully from it with only minor injuries. I had the Kings cage version, so your looks different. So now getting my U2's my male and female a large stainless steel cage likely, unless I find a good power coated cage large enough for two U2's? I am keeping her separate in her old cage for now, which my male U2 now somewhat upset as he always calling her and even clicking a lot by bars by her lately, even through cages are still right next to each other and they are out a few hours a day together. They are use to sleeping on the same perch next to each other. I just don't trust her with that cage grate anymore. She the bird that love to destroy cages she ripped the welds off the play top on a couple of large thick bars cages and always been like that since the day I got her. So hesitant in getting a stainless steel cage like I did for my Frankie as won't be cheap and not sure stainless steel cage will hold up to her as she is larger then my male U2 and pretty powerful. She know how to remove the bolts and bend the food doors on king cages right out.

The spacing is 20mm to 24mm, would that still be ok though? Is there a particular reason why 1 inch is the limit?

Hi thanks for the reply, the grates at the bottom are held down with a clip which is on the outer part of the cage so he shouldn’t be able to lift it it. However I only got it yesterday so if need be I can return it if it is not suitable for ekkies. :)

Hi, yea the cage is pretty big, even though it is a corner cage lol. The door looks small in the photo but it is nearly the height of me, however that’s just because I am short haha :D

Hi thanks for the reply, yes the dowels are just in there for a short time until I get more perches and toys ordered. Just want the cage to look nice while it is up but they will be taken out once the parrot arrives as I find them to be slippy for them.

Just got to excited building the cage lol :D

I think 1 inch is 25mm, so your cage is ok. If the spacing of the bars are too wide, it can make it difficult for an eclectus to climb around.
