Beak Injury

My male eclectus has had issues with plucking recently so we changed his diet at the vet's recommendation and he is looking 98% better.

The new issue is his beak. It appears he is rubbing it on something in his cage to the point of it bleeding. Has anyone seen this before and have any suggestions?

I added a pic as an attachment but not sure if it worked. If no pic shows up someone please instruct me on how to add it.

Thanks!

Some place in your Parrot's cage is a sharp point or edge. This point or edge must be found and filed to a smooth surface! Whether it required the full disassembly of the cage or simply working your fingers over every single surface until you find it. The damaged area implies a sharp point.

- Parrots naturally rub their Bill on surfaces to remove food, etc...
- Parrots naturally rub their Bill on surfaces to smoothen growth and the edges as they flake.

Bill rubbing is a natural and common activity.

Please place an immediate effort into finding that sharp point.

Also I see a swelling by the eye. He could have a sinus infection. That could be why he rubs. Or like above and because he chews cage bars that's how he is hurting the beak....
I see by his beak he is cage bar chewer. There is some raffia that pet stores sell you can weave in the cage bars to temp him to chew that. Or you can use pages from an old paperback book.

Great job on improving feather picking, that's hard to do.

I have an article on stress in parrots I'm always posting because I think it has useful info. I'll get it and share with you. Note I'm not a fan of the clicker training part, I just say the same phrases like good birdie. https://lafeber.com/pet-birds/stress-reduction-for-parrot-companions/
