Basil, eclectus.
Melania, eclectus.
River, blue and gold macaw.
Lucky, quaker.
Marley, quaker.
Kiwi, lovebird.
I just got my baby Basil and he's been wonderful, (I'm sorry I've forgotten to post pictures of him!)

I met a female 13 year old eclectus named Melania at our rescue about a month ago who was just the SWEETEST she flew onto my shoulder as soon as i walked in. The main lady has called me about 3 times and has been very adamant that she wants me to adopt Mel.

She was the main lady's bird when she was younger i dont remember why she had to be given up but,

She was adopted by a family

The family gave her away to a friend (which was a breach of contract)

The rescue called the family to see how Mel was and they told them that she was dead.

The friend gave her back to the rescue

The main lady realized who the bird was right away

So she's been from home to home lately I feel so bad. She told me that she only let me and one other person fill out an adoption form for Mel because she's being so picky on who gets her since she has a history with Mel, her picture isn't even on the website and she's in a foster home.

Do you think I should adopt her or focus on baby Basil? I can answer any questioms if needed. She texted me last night and said she's just going to approve my app so if it's anytime to decide its now or never.

Only you can decide how much time you have to care for two.

Me, I'd take the rescue in a second, as you know her and she likes you. And I'd cancel the hold on the baby. But that's me, and I believe so much in rescue.

But I took on a rehome after I really had plunty of parrots, I followed my heart. Even though my head said no , lol , I'm very happy I did.

Saxguy went to adopt an ekkie, and also fell for an Amazon, he went back and got her too!

I have Basil! So there's no hold to cancel :)
I'm really leaning towards getting her but don't know what's holding me back, thank you for your advice!

Well, Baxter's story lives on. Thank you Laura :) Yes, I adopted my Ekkie Tucker after the sudden loss of Patches (my first Ekkie, best friend, my heart bird) I wasn't even thinking about another bird, but I went to the refuge to visit, spend some time with the birds, and help heal my heart. Enter Tucker, the sweet little boy who was dropped there just 2 weeks before. I think he needed me as much as I needed him. During one of my visits with him, Baxter called to me, literally... Hello... Hello... HELLO! Love at first sight. I struggled with the decision for several months, hoping she found a great home all the while. Nope. She was very persuasive. I finally gave in to her charm. Sooooo glad I did. My only minor regret is that she doesn't want anything to do with Tucker, so I have to divide my time between them and can't have them out at the same time. Just means they get one on one time instead of group/flock time. Works for me!

Your decision is entirely yours. Only you know what your heart says, and if it's something you can do. It is definitely a time commitment. Although they might, understand that there is the very real possibility they won't get along, and decide how you would handle it if that happens. As I said, that's the boat I'm in, but I just go with it, and would never give up on either of them. I do hope it works out for you, since I'm a firm believer in rescues. They're so worth it! Best of luck in your decision. In my case, the answer was go for it.
