Alright, so I have my avian vet now and have all the paperwork set up and ready to go for when I get Skyler. But today at the vets office I was asking all types of questions, and I asked them about the pellets. The lady that was there, not the doctor, told me that they recommend harrison pellets and that they would recommend 70% of pellets and then fruits and vegetables and greens... To me, that seems like a lot of pellets for an Eclectus? Right or wrong?

Right! I wonder if the person on the phone doesn't know the special needs of an eclectus..

Oh it wasn't on the phone Chris, it was in person at the vets office. She is not the doctor obviously. I told her it was an Eclectus and she asked me if I was going to have it DNA'd for sex... She was really nice though. And really helpful. And I think she realized once I said the color variations for the sexes she realized the stupidity in the question. But when I talk to the actual Dr. there he better know a little more about it. That is all I have to say. It is the only Avian approved vet around though and the Dr. came highly recommended by a number of people.

For most parrots the % of pellets in a diet is 60-70%. I'm betting she didn't hear "eclectus" or is (unfortunately) handing out advice that she's not qualified to give. Good luck with the doctor.

Buddy our Quaker parrot and Daisy our Cockatiel and Saphira our Eclectus!
Yea...I wouldn't take her advice. I would follow the advice of your breeder and hopefully the vet knows about the Eclectus's special diet. If not at least you have the Internet and this forum..and your breeder for advice and a vet for emergency ....which hopefully none of us would need!

Do Not feed that much... Lilly will send you the diet that she uses on all her Eckies.... follow that.. That is what I use and I have added more veggies and fruits to it...

Abby is a pig and eats just about anything...

I only give Abby about a Tea Spoon of pellets at night for her to have something to snack on. I use Zupreem.

Again Talk to Lilly.

Thanks you guys. I think it was just the fact that she may not have heard me say Eclectus. At least that is what I am hoping. And the Dr. has 14 years experience working with birds. I have a lot less time than that researching birds and I knew that was a lot, or from my research thought it was anyways. And thanks to you guys I am certain it is. We will find out soon if the Dr. is more qualified. :D lol. And I am definitely going to be using Lilly's diet from the start Cowtown. I just didn't know if I needed to add some more pellets in to it or not because from talking to her, I don't remember her mentioning pellets at all in the diet. But she hasn't sent me the list of food and what she feeds them yet. I am still waiting for pictures anxiously and for all his details... Sigh. lol. Thanks again.
