Introducing Basil

Now that I have finally figured out how to post pictures, I wanted to introduce my SI male, Basil.





He is 22 years old. I have had him since he was 5/6 weeks. Here is even his egg:


Yes, I know his feathers are not looking so nice now. Just before his last molt we had a tornado destroy parts of the house and he had to be moved to another spot. He was stressed and they didn’t come out looking like he normally did. We are waiting for his next molt to see if he goes back to normal.

He doesn’t chew them or pull at all. I have never seen him toe tap. He does sometimes droop his wings when he falls asleep. He also sometime is almost bent in half when he is sleeping. This photo is him with his wings down a bit while resting.


He’s never been a chewer when it comes to toys. We are working on this by hiding treats in cardboard toys (bought from safe supplies) and hiding treats in natural toys like woven Chinese finger traps.

He talks and says many things. I can’t ever capture them though because he normally talks and whistles when I am out of site.

Thank you for the pictures, he's beautiful! And isn't that just like an Ekkie- talk a blue streak when they don't see you, deafening silence when you're there. Hmmmmm. My guy does the same most of the time. Once in a great while, he likes to do his contact whistle on my shoulder, and gets mad if I don't immediately return it. Marco-Polo at its finest!
