Winston 屁撚, the Eclectus. 屁撚 (pi-nian) came from Pinion (Psalms 64, meaning flight feather, typifying God's soaring power.)
Winston has been smelling sour recently. He has vet appointments coming up next week. I booked 2 places just in case. I'm wondering if there's anything I can do at home in the mean time. He's been active and acting normal but losing weight. 480ish grams to 465 grams in 3 weeks.

I read that baking soda or apple cider vinegar helps with chicken sour crop. Is that worth trying?

Good for you catching the weight loss. Its one very important way to monitor a parrots health. Certified Avian Vet visit is certainly in order here. I would not try baking soda, but a small amount of apple cider vinegar is supposed to help. Once confirmed by the CAV, figure out WHY it got that way.

He threw up in the middle of the night. Still eating but appetite is not as good this morning. Demands nuts and seeds instead of regular meals. I mixed in a little bit of baking soda last night in his meal. Managed to keep his weight at 467 grams this morning.
I know vet is the best way, and but we have to get him through another 2 days before vet.

Please keep a close eye on his hydration too. My Little Bird just went through this but she could not stop regurgitating and it was an emergency, she had to be see by a vet that day. She did have to be admitted to the vet hospital for the day and needed injectable medicine to stop the regurgitation as well as fluids. She's doing well and on nystatin and Reglan now and she is gaining weight fast, 7 grams since Monday. I've heard of the Apple cider vinegar treatment as well and was going to talk to my vet about it after her meds are finished. I know some people use it as a preventative from what I've read online. Please keep us posted. Also worth noting, her stool exam was normal, it was her crop swab that came back positive.

Winston gained weight this morning. He is at 474 grams. Still bad appetite, but he wants nuts and seeds. He cared enough to bite me this morning to express his disappointment of breakfast (mashed acorn squash with seeds of the squash, sweet potato, mashed top pellets and a dash of orange juice). His biting is not totally unusual, cuz I’m the bad mom he dislikes.

I’m hopeful.
...for his recovery, not our relationship...he flew straight to his dad after I fed him. (Facepalm)

I always like to provide information on obtaining the most well-qualified veterinarians. Maybe this will be of interest to you. In any event, best of luck to you, and good for you, for being so dedicated!

In my opinion, any of the vets listed above should be better than a regular vet, although exceptions do exist!
Sometimes, it helps just to Google "avian veterinarian - [YOUR LOCATION]"
And here is a link concerning COVID issues...

To report:
Winston saw a vet today. Vet agrees with my judgement of sour crop and prescribed Nystatin. Because of covid-19, Winston spent a whole day at the vet himself, but the vet told me he was talking most of the time. Maybe it was a good thing, because he came back home hungry. We made him a new batch of chop while he was not home, so he ate the largest amount he had in the last few days. We are not going to the second vet tomorrow because it is not very feasible.

In general, I think we made some right decisions and was successful at maintaining his weight and status over the weekend. I will probably update more in a couple of days.

Thanks to all!

I’m glad you got vet help
I’m a fan of live culture yogurt with no artificial sweetener
A teaspoon a day of fresh opened for a week then three times a week fir a week then once a week or every other week for life
This is what I did for my GCC who was yeasty it really helped her,
The do sell burd probiotics but when I read the label it was the same as the yogurt mostly, and with the yogurt she licked it right off my fingers
Even my parakeets are willing to lick it up, it has been safe fir me and I did find it on parrot safe food list

Yes, vet has always been in order. The home remedy was just to get him through the weekend. I thought about yogurt, but was unsure about it for Eclectus specifically. What brand do you use?

Just seeing this. I'm glad he's gaining weight again, and that you were able to maintain his weight to the extent possible until he could be seen by the vet. Good on you for catching the weight loss so quickly. With birds, noticing such things swiftly can make all the difference.

Looking forward to the update on how Winston is faring.
