Hi All,
After my 1 year and 8 month male parrot got a molt on is head,
I took him to a vet which made tests and find out that he carries a Polyomavirus ...
It has been about 1.5 months and the molt became a little bigger in upper neck and head , but the parrot hadn't changed his behavior , he is very happy ,eating a lot , same weight (about 430 grams) talking and non behavioral difference to be noticed.
Since he is quite adult and no other clinical symptoms rather than the feathers do you have any suggestions what I can do, if there something I can do ?
Is the feathers molt is a result of the virus for sure?

Hello, and welcome to the forums! Handsome boy you have there! Great question from noodles above. Eclectus have very different dietary needs from other parrots, due to their longer digestive tract. Also, did your vet have any concerns with his blood work? High or low levels of anything? More information makes it easier to look at the whole picture.

Now, as far as the feather issue, while it could be from a variety of reasons, it's also possible that it's just a heavy molt, and will resolve shortly. My Ekkie guy Tucker goes through it on occasion. Not quite as thin as yours looks in the pictures, but definitely noticable. I call it "birdie male pattern balding." My first Ekkie was a life long plucker before I got him, so when Tucker started looking like that, I was a little panicked. He's generally in beautiful trim. They grew back, thank goodness!

So, your avian professional is always your best source, since they should have all the information at hand. If they don't see anything on the health side causing the issue, I'd say keep an eye on him, and wait a bit to see if it resolves. Keep us posted :)

That looks like a mojo molt. My ekki has gone through several mojo molts, which is a neck ring of molted feathers. He looked scraggly for a few months before the new feathers grew in.

Thank you for reply,I don't know if you noticed , I have written that he was at the Vet
and he diagnosed as a Polyomavirus carrier, and one of the synonym for the disease is "French Molt"
I just not sure if the "Molt" is from the Virus or hopefully it may caused by less critical reasons since it has no other symptoms Accompanied with the feather problem.

Molly and Bosley. They both left home and have partners now. Come back to feed sometimes. Just have Sonny an Ecky... more than enough
Haven't checked in here for a long time but noticed your post. Our bird Sonny had a molt like that last year from May to August and he's doing the same again this year. Beginning to look better now at last. It's winter here, but I guess here he's from there's not a great change in the seasons.
