So Paprika is seven weeks and two days old now. I’ve had her since Monday night. I am trying to remember back from when Basil was a little guy how long we waited to introduce small amounts of real food. I have a millet spray in there with her now, and I gave her a very small chunk of birdie bread, which she did try and chewed up.

What is recommended when you start introducing her to real foods, veggies, fruits, chop and pellets? 22 years ago is a long time to try to remember.

Sorry that your Thread has gotten missed, sadly it does happen from time to time. With this Post, it will get bumped back up on the board.

My expertise is with older Amazons /Parrots in general. But, have been around long enough to know that even with their very specific diet requirements, at seven weeks, it's time to begin solid food. Work in bits of the healthy adult diet that her species requires. As you know, keep the pellets to the light side, starting with a few crumbs in the mix.

Well, she hatched on June 10th. She is coming up on being eight weeks old this Wednesday. She is taking 26-27ml each feeding three times a day now. I backed down from 30ml because I have introduced some pieces of birdie bread, smaller pellets (Harrison’s, nutriberries, oven fresh bites), sprouted millet and winter wheat, sprouted chickpeas, sprouted navy beans, sprouted green lentils, and some different small pieces of veggies and fruits (corn, sweet potato, peppers, rambutans, apple, carrot).

She picks through them and so far seems to try all of them. She doesn’t eat a lot but I think it’s good samples them.

Maybe it’s a little early for her, but she hasn’t had any issues and hasn’t had a loss of appetite. Most importantly she is maintaining or slightly increasing her weight.

She is still on three hand feedings a day but we have begun to give her more real food in her habitat. Today was small apple chunks, shredded carrots, snow peas and snap peas.

She is a very sweet little girl and she loves to sit on the top of your chest and fall asleep fully stretched out.
