My sister just got a set that specifically mentioned that it was free of ptfe/pfoa and pfcs (as well as teflon) I will ask her..it wasn't cheap, but it's long-lasting ceramic. She had cancer, plus the birds are a major concern...so she's careful.

I use vintage Revere Ware (100% stainless steel w/copper bottom)-- some vintage Revere Ware is not safe if coated, so do check.

Cast iron can be okay but it's tricky to season with birds in the house because of the smoke it produces. You never want to heat oil at high heats with birds around...

You need to be cautious about PTFE/PFOA/PFCs/Teflon and silicone.

I just called her (no answer), but it may be this...not sure..they look similar https://www.waxonware.com/products/waxonware-deep-frying-pan-with-stonetec

Not all ceramic is safe. You need to be specific when you look.

I need to buy new muffin pans because my steel ones rusted too bad to feel safe using them any further. Does anyone know if specific brands that are known to be okay ?

I recently picked up this set. Seems to be a nice quality item. Specifically says "parrot safe" and contains none of the bad stuff. . .

Personally I'm feel suspicious even of this set because obviously they are using SOMEthing to make it non-stick.

BUT having said that... I do keep two pans of a similar type in my own house, and one waffler-maker with the same type of supposedly-safe coating. I use each of these only under rare circumstances, birds at other side of house with rooms closed between, AND with outward-blowing fan in kitchen window with an open-window nearby to move any potential nonstick fumes OUT the house. The only reason I even have these two pans and one waffler is there are just a few items I canNot cook except in non-stick. I discarded all my previous non-stick pans after getting my birdies, and I replaced them only with these that CLAIM to not have anything bad in them. BUT. Obviously they are using SOMETHING to make them non-stick. And personally I suspect they just keep inventing new, as yet variations so they can say, "oh it's not THAT Chemical." And, since the new one is Newer, it's dangers have yet to be documented.

There IS a type of ceramic-coated pan which is completely safe. AN ADDITIONAL reason I am Highly SUSPICIOUS of these so-called "Ceramic"-nonstick pans is they are using the Word "Ceramic" to confuse consumers, since Ceramic USED TO refer to a safe, NON-chemically-non-stick option. (It was around WAY before the "nonstick" pans were invented.) But now, the so-called "Ceramic" nonstick pans are NOT Actually Ceramic.

To find REAL ceramic pans, think of Le Creuset. Look up ENAMELED pans or ENAMELWARE. This is now the only way to find them. Yes they are more expensive. If you don't get these then just find some steel pans. Or cast iron. (Just be careful about seasoning your cast iron. But you actually don't have to use high heat for seasoning. Look up low-heat seasoning, I saw a youtube video that showed it done, and it was the way I've always done it.)

FYI... it's ceramic (makes sense now). That's what they make the space shuttle tiles out of, and same with high performance brakes.
