Hi everyone

We have a CAG and recently adopted a female Eclectus who will be turning only 2 years old Nov 17 th. I have read a lot about their dietary needs . I serve her chop veggies fruits beans chickpeas etc and tops pellets . That said she loves Mazuri parrot pellets which she gets very sparingly because I do not know if they are good for her . She will eat the tops but not with the same vigor . Our grey Kira likes the Mazuri best from all the pellet diets I have tried for her .Haven't tried rouwdybush nor Harrisons. Does anyone feed Mazuri Parrot pellets ?? I am planning on buying a dehydrator soon . The people I got our Ekkie Ruby from used to dehydrate fruits and veggies thought that was a great idea . Any tips and or advise is greatly appreciated

Hello!

Congratulations on the new addition! And Bravo for having done your homework!

The mazuri is a big fat NO. It’s heavily supplemented. Stick with the TOPs pellets.

Go easy on the dehydration - it destroys many beneficial, water soluble nutrients. Also, it concentrates all the sugar in of a chunk of fruit into a snack sized bite, enabling them to eat more sugar and less nutrients than they normally would. They’re good for a snack, not necessarily an entire meal.

Thank you for your fast response and advice . Glad I ask about the dehydrator you just saved me some $$ :) She is a very good eater and so far she eating her entire chop <smile > I also make parrot bread for the birds only way I can get various veggies into the CAG belly . I am really enjoying this bird she so sweet and holds an entire conversation with herself it's so funny . She tells herself no biting ( she doesn't bite ) step up come on now step up hey no biting now step up followed by a cheerful you such a good girl Ruby LOL .
