Dusky Conure, Male Ekkie
I haven't been around for awhile, and with some unfortunate instances my delays in getting 'one' of the birds on my bucket list was a male Ekkie. It's strange really, how life pulls or pushes us in different directions and we don't know why. However, I'm pretty sure this little guy and I were meant to be life long buds.

"Comet" was hatched on May 22nd 2020...I first met him back in July, when I drove all the way from North Carolina to NJ just to meet him, and drove back the very same day. Well, I went all the way back up to NJ on Halloween this year to bring him home for good.

I was a little worried about the drive home for him, because it was an 8hr drive, but he weathered it like a trooper and when we got home, he immediately went for the play/tree gym I'd bought for him. He wasn't hungry at first, just sat there extremely nervous, but as with most Ekkies as soon as the food comes out and someone else is eating... ALL BETS ARE OFF! All it took was a little piece of bread from a quick snack I made, and he permanently had his face planted in chop, pellets, and anything edible (and I mean anything...)

He's still clumsy in his cage and perches, but he's already spent a couple afternoons on my back enclosed porch during warmer weather. Our evening ritual is eathing dinner together then he loves standing on my forearm as I type at the computer and change the backlighting on my gaming keyboard. He's already started mumbling his name, and other such nonsense as I watch NetFlix with him... and he loves the "Moving Art" animal series on NetFlix, never seen an Ekkie jump up and down like Caique with excitement... but he does.

Here's his "Money Shot"(how do I insert a pic on the post?)

Gorgeous boy! Welcome Comet and congratulations cneuhauser, you must be so proud!

Here's a link that might help you with your pics........

http://www.parrotforums.com/technical-support/6287-how-post-pictures.html

You should also be able to post a thumbnail pic along with your post. Click the "go advanced" button underneath the text box, then click the paper clip icon. You will then get the "choose file" button, so then click the "upload" button on the right, close out of that box and post. The picture should show as a thumbnail under your text.

Many of us load up our pics onto an account through Imgur and link them from there. That way they are always the right way up, and there is no problem with upload limits. Best of all, it's free!

Congratulations! I was wondering if you had found your new bird yet. Oh my goodness, he's adorable! Love the food beak. Ekkies are such little pigs :)

I just caught this: that’s sandblasted Java wood. Ekkies often have a very hard time gripping that material, owning to the combination of smooth surface and naturally weaker grip relative to other species. You’ll want to wrap much of that in vet wrap to help him remain mobile.

Good call on the vet wrap... I'm going to order some today.

He is gorgeous. Last Friday I drove 10 hours from Texas to Oklahoma and brought home a 5 yo female ekkie. I’m impressed that you did two round trips, impressive but it’s worth it. Congratulations on your new besty.
