Afternoon, I thought I read somewhere that parrots can't have Kale. Is this true? Just want to find out because of the high calcium content.

Even though Comet gets chop with collard greens and baby spinach, I'm thinking about tossing in Kale as well.

Thanks all...

Kale is fine.

You have to be slightly cautious with stuff like spinach and Swiss chard because they have high oxalate content (excessive oxalates can create calcium deficiency, one cause of toe tapping, and when bound together, high calcium stuff like kale and high oxalate stuff like spinach can give you calcium oxalate=kidney stones.

But I think you have to go HARD on the greens in order to reach that threshold.

Thanks Chris. I always assumed kale was good, but wasn't 100% sure. I don't buy it since my guys think it's radioactive. Can't hide it in chop since they don't like anything finely chopped. Has to be 1/2-3/4 inch chunks or they won't go near it. Pfft.. I can usually get away with fine stuff in the birdie bread, but that's the only way.

I gave up on kale, I don't like it and non of the birds did either. Romaine is very nutritious, rgey like that and dandelion greens, brussel sprouts, bok choy, celery leaves, so many choices, that I dumped kale

Their habits are so funny, aren’t they? Parker not touch chunks, either who fruit or finely chopped EVERYTHING. So kale is in almost every chop I make. Though I do occasionally try something else, red cabbage for instance.

i find they like hole pcs . yes its more wasteful but they do more to eat . corn on the cob is an example . i tie rap after drilling a hole . two pcs making up a whole stalk . hours of eating and play time . a mango same way . i dont feed them this stuff daily . i have hi grade pellets coming in from two venders . they eat veggies , fruit and various pellets . even if all are there at one time . they kind pick what they want .i want to thank this forums so far as i use the kind advice given they get better as pets .
