The previous owner named them JoJo and Gracie. We might change their names....My partner does all the naming so I have to wait til later....Went to pick them up myself...I'm exhausted....Up since 5:30 and it's almost 3 and I just got done putting the cage together and feeding them fruits and veggies right now...I figured something out real quick, MUST cut their food smaller...lol

They both needs a good bath, they stink!!!! I don't think they even given them a bath ever....The girl needs a little TLC to get her feathers to grow back, he told me she was just nesting not long ago. Both are very friendly, especially Gracie, she's a sweetheart!!!!

Pedro,

Im not going to attempt to give them a bath today, they've been through enough trauma leaving their home, almost 3 hrs car ride in a carrier, then another 2 hrs while I put their cage together. Then brand new surroundings, new toys, cage, everything....Gracie seems fine and adjusted right away....She's sooooooo sweet!!!! JoJo needs a little work but he does not bite, just takes a little coaxing to get him to step up. Gracie already started eating, if you don't cut their food small, they take a bite and throw out the rest....lol I think I bought too much veggies, they probably go bad before all my birds eat them...lol... I think my partner is gonna laugh at me looking at their food bowl, I give them a big bowl of fruit and veggies....lol I haven't had much sleep, I'm lucky I didn't cut my hand while cutting the veggies....

Gracie is starting to follow me around like a puppy dog already. She flies out looking for me, she lands on the floor and runs to me while making a funny sound...She hops on my arm and sat on my shoulders. JoJo is talking away, I can not believe how good of a talker they are. I think these two are gonna be the fun ones out of the bunch....My partner wanted them for many years, I'm gonna have a ear full tonight on we should of gotten them long time ago....lol

I am so happy for you. We will all love to hear about the progress. Just give them a big bowl of water in the morning and see if they bath eachother!! Pretty soon you will be cooking lots of things for them. I always get very strange looks from people when I say I cook for my bird.

I decided to give them a bath. First thing my partner says is what is that smell....lol..... I said it's the ekkies.... Their feathers were really filthy. Since Gracie doing so well I thought I give it a try. Then I got JoJo to come to me and he trusted me. He eats off my hand now and give me birdie kisses.

Thanks Mike!

They actually loved the bath. Took them in the shower with me. I hush wish they wouldn't drink the tap water while taking a shower....lol. they're pretty much dried up and looking even more prettier and more vibrant. I washed out that funk that was in their feather. I think part of Gracie's problem with plucking other then she was nesting. She was not on a good diet from the food I was given. He was feeding them mainly pellets. So all that's gotta change....they have too much sunflower seeds in their diet as well...so far they are not fond of collard greens. Gonna try other leafy greens next week.

Mike.... they love you already and they know know they have a great guardian...
Thank you for taking them..

I feed Abby a ton of fresh and frozen veggies.... corn, broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, jalapeños, crushed red peppers, black eyed peas (cooked), Granny Smith apples, spinach, cooked pastas (all kinds), cooked sweet potatoes, pears, oranges....
you get the picture... anything that is fresh, no avocados or lettuce or celery
I give her plain Cheerios, almonds and pecans for treats.
On the frozen veggie, I just put them a bowl of water and heat just enough to take the chill off and then cut up in to small pieces..
You will have to see if they like them really cooked (soft) of it they like them kind of raw, Abby like them both way.

Keep a lot of toys so they won't get bored. and talk to them all the time...

Congrats again..

Mike....
I grill chicken and make sure I do a small piece without any seasoning,

After the pictures I stock their cage with more toys....lol So yes they are well stocked with toys....they're sooooo pretty this morning...

I have a BIG question for people that knows Eclectus pretty good. The person I got them from said they're Red-Sided Eclectus, but somehow I think they're Soloman Island because I was expecting a bit bigger bird being bigger sized as the Red Sided are. From head to tail they measure out about 13" with a ruler which is 12" From what I've read Red sided should be above 15"

The Eclectus Parrot - Graham Taylor (Australia)

Mike, here is a link for an Australian Breeder. I think most of what we have read is a guide. I know here in Australia it's sometimes hard to find a pure RS or SI. As years ago they didn't realise there where different sub-species. So a lot of birds were crossed bred.

I was wondering if you were going to breed with Jojo & Gracie, or did they ever rear chicks.? I would love to find more about their back ground. Sorry for being nosie. Mike i have bred these beautiful birds for the last 12 years & have taken a great interest in their behavior. There is a huge number of eclectus in Auz that pluck for one reason or another. I also have a nest plucker & would be interested what you think.
