It just keeps on getting better. Henry Landed on me!!!

First no news on the 9x eggs though. They do not give me any chance to get at the nests. And I will not distrub them unless I have to.

All 4x seem to be a lot more confident around the place.
Yesterday Henry came to the dinner table while I was eating a steak and mushroom pie. Walked over and started to eat the pastry of the pie.
He was still a bit shy and kept walking away and then coming back.
When I finished he walked on to the plate and perched on the knife he cleaned up the crumbs.:D

Do you think he has a smile on his dial?

Today he tried the same thing with Heathers morning porridge. So am guessing this may of been a normal thing, way back in his life.
Funny enough Roxy also tried her porridge.
They come for the morning Ched (1x chesse biscuit).
Roxy knows what is coming as soon as you pick up the box of biscuits, and gets all excited.

Now the Wahoo!
One thing I have been waiting so long for!
I was on the phone when he flew over and landed on my shoulder. :D This is huge for me.
I have waited so long, letting him do his own thing. It is very close to our first anniversary. All most to the day. We have had a few set backs, so am out on my first prediction of him land on me by last christmas.
Right now he, like so many other Tiels is sitting on my monitor.
While Roxy has come up on to the pelmet above us.

He is also such a gentleman, the way he talks to Tinkerbel before he goes into the nest box.

So anyway, I was looking at some more youtube videos this morning (I do this often), and I came across another pit bull/bird video, except this time it's a cockatiel. It's just too funny!

It makes me so mad that people STILL think that budgies are simple and easy to look after!!! WHY!? I have a friend who owns a budgie. It lives in a cage which is tall, not wide, has an all seed diet, no out of cage time, and is sick and in the middle of a draught!! Everybody I know says, 'Oh, I don't want a budgie, they have no personality and are too easy to look after. All you have to do is put them in a cage with seed and water.' I can't stress too much how that isn't true!! I prepare my budgie's food after school. It then goes into a sealed container until morning. I have no time to do it in the morning because of school but I still take the time to prepare the veggies and fruits. It takes me HALF an Hour! Last night I did beetroot, apple, spinach, carrot, carrot tops and corn ( I try to give them variety ). After school I play with them, let them climb all over me and give them treats and syringe feed them :D. They get a massive clean out 1-3 times per week ( perches replaced, toys cleaned, fresh gum branches, ect.). In that time they get a free flight either in my room or the shower room. In warm weather, they get baths over the weekend.
Yet people ignore me when I tell them budgies aren't decorative, they're for life!!
Just my little rant.:p

Hello, I am posting this ad for a friend who is relocating and is unable to take her birds with her. She has 4 Cockatiels and this is what I know about them:

A male and a Female she refers to as "the breeding pair" (But if adopted, please dont let them breed) They cant be separated, but need to be put in separate cages because the female keeps plucking the males feathers out. :( She tells me they are about 5-6 years old. She is asking for a $30 re homing fee which includes both birds, a birthing box and their cage with accessories.

The other 2 are a brother and sister and are currently in the same cage together, but need to be separated ASAP to avoid interbreeding. These 2 are teenagers she calls them. She says they are a little over 1 year old and are babies from the "breeding pair". I hope to help her find good homes for them and would like to see them go in pairs to avoid separation anxiety. She is also asking for a $30 re homing fee for these 2 birds, and this includes the birds, their cage and accessories.

If interested, I have a larger cage that I used to transport my Amazon in that I am willing to give up if it will help find these little guys homes.

I cannot take them because I already have a Blue Front Amazon, 2 large dogs and a cat. My house is full. But I am doing the next best thing, and that is to do my best to get them placed ASAP. Please help me place these adorable birds as quickly as possible. They are currently being kept outside in their cages leaving them vulnerable to snakes and fire ants. They are all very sweet birds and they deserve a better life.
I have photos I can send to you that I took. If you are interested in them please email me. ologyillustrations@gmail.com

There is a massive clean out scheduled for today!! I also wanted to clear some things up. The breeding attempt did not go well, the other budgies managed to get through a tiny gap in the cage divider, attacked Marigold and smashed her eggs.

Her wounds looked VERY bad ( fatal ) while blood was everwhere, but now it is gone they look pretty minor, and are healing so well she should be able to go out today.

Thimble was the only budgie involved in attacking Marigold, she has a battle wound as well. Lexi was not involved.

Lexi has a gender issue. She is female, yet acts like a male. I caught her a few days ago trying to mount:eek: Chubba Chubs ( male ) and singing along with the males, as well as this, she is very laid back, most unlike female behaviour.

That pet store that was so rude about me trying to advise them about a sick budgie:mad:, well, guess what? I found the sick budgie out the back of their store, half dead in the middle of the road.
And, of course, I can't prove that they chucked him out the back. Here's Lucky, the sick budgie, a few days befor passing on.

His tail was pretty much brown and shrivalled up and he was so weak he couldn't even raise his head up. This was earlier in the year, but I somehow thought I'd already told you guys.

My budgies are close to maintaining a perfect weight ( Marigold has trouble ). I check them over for health problem 1-3 times per week. I check crops, tails, wings, ceres, vents, weights ect.
Can't be too careful:rolleyes:.

I have enough for another big cage for them but I'm hesitant to spend right now, because it is all I have for vet bills. I have about $220 right now.

I just had breakfast and my brother and dad are going out soon so I can get started on the clean out.

I set up a better hospital cage a day or two ago. It is great!! ( Marigold is in there )

Anyway, lots of pics on the way!!!:D

Well, I just have no idea what to do here. I have one cockatiel that we found in the backyard about a month and a half ago. I think someone just let him go for whatever reason. No one ever looked for him. So, we took him in. I still have yet to have taken him to the vet, I'm sure that should have been my first step. But, I just haven't had the money yet with my car breaking down and all.

He still seems pretty young, looks like he was going through his first molt. Was missing his feathers on his neck and has yet to grow them back. By the reading I've done, this doesn't seem normal, is it? I figured he would have at least started growing his feathers back in on his neck by now.

I did end up ordering Taming Training and Tricks. Was having some screaming problems. That seems to be good now. I was also training him to get him more use to my hands so I didn't have to chase him around the cage all over just to pick him up. That went well...and when we were done, I really was at a loss of what to do next. So, I quit training him. Now...he seems to have reverted back to his old ways of running around the cage from me and flapping his wings and everything.

We also let him sit on our shoulders sometimes, but everytime we do...he just gets really fussy, grumpy, and nippy. If he decides he doesn't like the way you moved or whatever (even with me just sitting here typing this) he reaches and bites my ear and makes little screeching noises in it. I'm not sure what's going on with him. He seems to be getting more grumpy everyday and I'm not sure how to handle it and it frustrates me.

I don't want to get rid of him, I want to work through it..but if anyone could help me out in this situation I would be really grateful. He just still seems to be scared of us in ways...especially the hands. Not sure why unless his previous owner did something to him. Not sure how long it takes cockatiels to get over stuff like that and learn to trust us, though. He never really bites hard but he sure hates us moving our hands around him now. Even after the training. He got better, then worse.

We just really need some help! I'll stop rambling now...but I sure hope someone can help me out!

Companion for Alexandrine? (Hypothetical)

I have a young female alexandrine parakeet, which we call Birdy. I got her for my terminal father as a birthday present to provide him with companionship. Upon making this purchase, I was fully aware that I ultimately would end up with this bird when my father inevitably passes away.

By that time, I hope to be out of college and have my own property, in which case I intend to build her an outdoor aviary. I was inspired to do this after reading about aviary living for parrots, and visiting the Oregon Zoo in Portland to see their lorikeet exhibit. The exhibit is 50 feet by 75 feet, and 20 feet high. It's truly an amazing sight to behold. The birds within it are among the most well-adjusted I have ever seen. You are allowed to walk into the aviary and interact with the birds, and if you happen to have a cup of apple juice, they come right up to you and feed right out of your hand. The aviary mimics their natural habitat, gives them all the room they could possibly want to fly, and allows them to participate in all of their natural behaviors. This is something I want for Birdy. I doubt I would build her an aviary of such great size, but something that would give her plenty of room to fly would be ideal

Now, something that crossed my mind was the idea of possibly getting Birdy a companion. If I were to build her an aviary, I would want it to be as large as possible to permit free flight, and I know that such space would probably permit a second parrot.

Birdy was fortunate in that she knew her parents, and does understand that she is in fact a parrot. She was raised by her mother and father, then taken away a couple weeks before she was weaned, and lived with her sibling for a year in a pet store. She understands that she is a bird and we are humans. I have witnessed her interact with baby birds; she has never been aggressive, although she has been both curious and unsure. However, that's a baby, not an adult. I haven't been able to find much information at all in regards to what I would look for in a second parrot, so I have many questions:

1. In my state, alexandrines are very hard to come by. If I were to get her a companion, I would make an effort to find one from a shelter. However, in Oregon, the only psittacula parrots available in shelters are Indian Ringnecks. From what I have been able to gather, alexandrines and IRNs can coexist peacefully and may even interbreed. Is this true? Would an IRN make an appropriate companion, or should I make an active effort to find another alexandrine?

2. Would it be better to get a male or a female? Would the species of her companion make any difference in the decision of male vs. female?

3. If I did get a male IRN, what are the chances they would successfully breed? Is it possible to prevent this? If so, how?

4. I have read that parrots often revert to wild behavior when placed in a male/female bonded pair setting. However, this generality goes under the assumption that parrots in general are strictly monogamous. Alexandrines and IRNs aren't generally strictly monogamous. So, would this be a problem? Would I have to deal with a hype in seasonal hormonal behavior, such as being attacked upon entering the aviary?

Any information is greatly appreciated. I must emphasize again that this is strictly hypothetical, as such a scenario wouldn't be possible for several years. However, I would like to satisfy my curiosity. Information about psittacula parrots in this regard appears to be surprisingly scarce, despite their long history as pets.

So after talking to a couple of Bird people, I decided to give 2x of Tink's eggs to Max and Roxy.
Who seem to have adpoted the eggs without question and have moved right on to sitting on the eggs. I hope they get at least one baby out of the two eggs.
Well, Max watched me playing around and went to the nest box to look! In he popped and out again. This was early morning, around lunch time all four Tiels were in their nest boxes.:)
Moving on three days later. The girls do the night shift and the boys take over just after light. Then it seems to be random, but nearly always someone one the eggs in both boxes.
The mood in the place is getting better all the time.

When I moved the eggs I did see if I could candle them. It was way too early to see any formation.
I had looked at the eggs when there was only three, and one looked bad.
I did not mark this one so have no idea who got that one.
As the boxes are hard to get to without them being around, it maybe awhile before I get the chance to check what is going on.

Its funny the way she runs around as fast as she can to get to it lol. She is getting so good at it now, you will notice at the end of the video I don't even have to hold the stick anymore, I can just place it at the other side of the table (she knows what to do ;)).

btw, I know the soundtrack is goofy, but it just made me laugh when I played it over the top :D
