Free flight or flying free?

Free flight means...a trained bird, flying outside, following commands, correct?

What would Amigo be called? Umm..he's free flight but only when I want him to be? With no aids except voice? In the summer, he lives outside full-time, unless he wants to come in.

I'm going to have to call him a "flying free" bird. Weirdos, for sure,,,that's us!

Um, free flight I'd would say is following commands. Just the ability to free fly without 'flying away' and can do recall?

Amigo certainly is a special case. He has probably the best scenario a captive bird can have tho!

How are him and Sassy getting on by the way?

Hi Mayden! Amigo has mellowed out greatly, where Sassy is concerned. He no longer hangs from the rafters, outside her living room window, giving her bad vibes! He comes in, most days for awhile, and is not worried about her anymore. Still wouldn't trust him to be loose with her, though. Thanks for asking!

Glad to hear. It's a bit of a shame that they can't be trusted together properly, but hey, Amigo can't have it all now can he? ^^

I guess Sassy has settled in just fine then too?

Everythings fine here, I've just gotten a job though so Merlin has some adjusting to do, but so far so good. Working now so I'll be putting pennies aside to save for Merlins operation since his leg is bothering me more and more daily...

IMO, free flight is a bird who has recall ability to his owner when flying freely .
Not necessarily a bird who lives outside , it can be , but needs to come when called to.
My Yoshi has recall in the house ,but I wouldn't call that free flighted because he is not
conditioned or trained to be free flighted outside.

I would consider him to be free flighted. Any bird that gets to fly outside of a caged area is being free flighted. Not all free flighted birds actually listen and recall like they are supposed to. Does Amigo come when your outside and you call for him? IMPO he has progressed to a level slightly beyond the average recall. I think it should fit into the same category but in a different way, almost like a sub section of free flight but definately still a type of free flight.

Yes, Molcan2, Amigo comes from wherever he is, when I call, unless he's napping and doesn't hear me. When any one is outside, even though they may not see him, believe me, he is watching them! I've been to different forums that have free flight categories and haven't met anyone, so far, that does what I do with Amigo,,,danger factor, I'm sure. I'm ok with that,,,definitely don't need my own sub-section!

Sassy has settled in nicely, Mayden. She is very comfortable here, loves my husband, I think more than he would like, but we adore her spunky, feisty personality. She hangs out during the day, (in the living room area),in and out of her cage, (her door left open), and is free to bug anyone she feels like bugging! When the kids drop in, they want to take her home with them!

Ok, Luvmytooo, I'll call Amigo a free flight bird, with special needs!

I think Amigo is flying free... He does whatever he wants... He can be out for days, but always comes home...

A free flighted bird is taken outside to fly, but when the flying is finished, he goes back home...

My uncle had a greenwing macaw named Pailey that flew around outside unsupervised and came in at night...even in the winter. She did this for about 10 years and then some kid shot her with a bb gun. She wasn't friendly at all but would scream to go outside or inside.

Nice kid ! I have a family living behind my field who I would love to see move.
Their renting the house and their kid runs wild terrorizing everything.
I'm sure he has taken shots at my goats with a BB gun. I have yet to visibly catch him. I would like to see him try that with one of the K9 dogs.
One of my dogs came limping over to me the other day with blood pouring out of the bridge of her nose ! Longer story short , she's ok , she ran around too hard and must have sprained her leg again , and from what I can make out got into a scuffle with my other female . They have done it before when one herds he other a little too close and gets carried away.
I first thought that she was shot by this kid because he was firing that gun like crazy right before I noticed my dog limping back to me.

I wish I can catch him in the act and show him something else that can be done with that gun

Last cop that went to talk to him was a rookie and basically he shouldn't have even showed up

Sorry about the vent , but the BB story got me going. :31:
