Alright, I need some moral help

Ok, I have a little light light blue parrotlet. She is an awesome bird, I regularly take her outside with me on my shoulder or in my hair. Her wings are not clipped, and she never flies away. She's has the coolest attitude and is super friendly. Throughout my childhood I had all sorts of cokatoos, cockatiels, budgies, finches, quail, pheasants, and chickens, but this little bird has been the easiest and friendliest of them all.

Unfortunately, I'm in college and I can't really afford to take her to a vet. Well last night I came home and she seemed to be having difficulty just standing on her perch. I pulled her out and she could not bear any weight on her right foot, and it even seemed like her left foot might be having difficulty too. There is a lot of bruising on her right leg, and now she is curled up in a little nest next to me on her back. Her little heart is going wild and I'm torn over what I should do. I've been through this before with a rose breasted cockatoo, I dealt with an amputation and daily injections for six months until we finally had to put him down.


I just want to be realistic here, she cannot walk at all on either legs, it's bad. I am not really sure if this is fixable, and if it isn't, I cannot go out to a vet and shell out 100 to euthanize her. What would you do in this situation?

hand on heart if it was my nut, i'd just try to make her comfortable an just be near her at all times, so she knows i am there, but she can suffer in peace, make her comfortable if i could

but if i knew that she was in alot of pain, and no light at the end, i would ask my man to end her quick (even the thought of this is makin me tearfull)

i understand not everyone has money to spare, and we have our birds/pets, but without the means of paying the vet, i am so sorry for both of you

I am incredibly sorry for both of you--this is a really tough and heart-breaking situation.

Would there be any way that your parents or close relatives could help lend you some money to take your little baby to the vet for a check-up? Or maybe ask around your group of friends to see if they closely know a vet who would take a look at your baby for a reduced price? Our pets can be extremely expensive at times to take care of, but somehow the love we feel for them will fix that. If she is in obvious pain with no hope of recovery, it would be the most humane to euthanize and be with her every step of the way, as hard as it may be.

Again, this is truly heart-breaking and I am deeply sorry that you two have to go through this.

When you leave a special bulb and lights in winter to make the cage and your bird warm then keep it mind that light must be dim and at a distance because very few people know that light creates shyness and behavior problems in birds.Some times it also makes bird very aggressive and creates anxiety in them .

Man thats tough... I'm so sorry... but like suebee said if I knew my boy was suffering and there was little to no help for him I would have to end his suffering one way or the other, as awful as that is... again I'm so very sorry for your baby

Im sorry to hear that, it is a bad situation. Maybe give her up to a shelter that can either treat her or euthanize if they have to?

Oh, my heart is breaking for you and her. You can make her a little more comfortable by making a hospital cage for her. A hamster cage works great. Give her a soft towel, some heat source and lots of water and food. No perches or toys. Sounds like she is really sick or injured and I do feel for you. It is so hard to watch one of our little friends suffer and we can't do anything for them. I would try to investigate how she hurt herself.
