Hello,

We're in need of a big wok, but are really having trouble finding any that aren't non-stick! Does anyone know of a brand that carries a good selection of bird safe pans?

Thanks:D

I'm glad you asked this question, as it's a rather personal one for me.

Non-stick woks are a disaster waiting to happen!

Wok-style cooking by its very nature is meant to be done at very high heat. High heat and non-stick cooking do not mix!

Get a real, high-carbon steel wok from an Asian cookware store or website.

Just one example of many.

I know its a big pain to find non-stick. I tried a ceramic fry pan from TJmax, it did ok @ first, & now it will stick if you're not paying attention. I looked @ stonedine? online, they claim nonstick, very expensive, & I dont think they sell ala carte so I can try it. My husband is a chef & he says the best quality stainless steel that you can afford is all the non stick you need. I miss my teflon.

high quality stainless steel, as long as its proved after use, i use to wash mine, while hot, dry an then rub with oil and place back onto the still hot hob is enough

also if proving pans you need to be aware of fumes that can come off the oil (to be safe) and off spices if they need cooking off 1st in curry dishes, pepper is a lung crippler when added onto a hot pan, and also chilli

i try an keep nut out of the kitchen when i cook, as i am mildly asmatic, and anything that irritates my lungs i consider an absolute no-no for the nut

I've been heating everything up on low & she is three rooms away with door shut, window open, fan blowing, just to be safe. But we cook big meals & need the extra height of a wok. I'll check out the links; hopefully I can find one! Thanks everyone:)

Hmm, I will have to look into a wok that is good for birds. I know this is kind of not with the topic, but whatever you do, do not buy a cheap pizza stone, especially from places like big lots, they are shipped from china with harmful chemicals, and that is how my GCC died!
