hi all, loooong time no post for me :D, hope you are all well. Probably half a million new members here since my last post hehe.

Anyway just popped in to ask a question. Was eating some toast today with Eddie hanging out on my shoulder. He gave me those big ol' "google eyes" and cheeky face, so of course I got sucked in and offered him a small piece of the crust. Without realising that there was a bit of butter on there, (no more than 2 grains of rice worth) so i don't think it will hurt him. I rarely let Eddie have bread and never give him butter, but it got me wondering how bad is bread and butter for birds? (particularly the butter) I read somewhere most bread is not good for them and Butter contains a lot of cholesterol. This bread was white (high fibre), but are some wholewheat types okay? Just curious if anyone includes these things as treats or even in the regular diet?

Hello Ben, welcome back, I've read alot of your posts. My junk food junky loves bread (he can even say bread) other than a poor diet choice, it hasn't hurt him. My husband introduced him to bread to medicate & its like creating a monster, no bread in site @ all. He also loves butter, (the real moo, not oleo) this is something he does not get often, if it stops our arteries up, imagine what it would do to a little bird. Ekkies have different diet needs, but such a small amount couldn't possibly hurt him. The only damage I see is letting him know how good it tastes. Now you will have to make sure bread & butter are out of site & out of reach. :D

Everything in moderation is the key. :)

So don't be making him jam and butter toast every morning from now on! ;)

:D thanks all. Yea I guess you gotta be careful, once they taste how good something is, they never want to see the end of it haha. Don't think i'll be making it part of his diet, he's already a pig as it is lol.

Oh gosh, every time I bring a plate of food whether it's breakfast, lunch, or dinner, he RUNS to my plate and tries to eat whatever it is. I've only had him for about a month and am his second owner so I have no idea what his previous owner accustomed him to. He sure does LOVE anything and everything I eat. I just make sure and give him the teeniest little lick... He is very fond of pastas and egg. I also give him whole wheat, whole grain bread with no preservitives or sugar. Gotta love Fresh and Easy!
