Hi all. I'm a new owner of a 5 year old Meyers. He's doing this odd "tongue-trilling" behavior, not accompanied by vocalizing, but he's sort of vibrating his tongue against the top of his beak, making a soft, high-pitched raspberry noise. It sounds a little insect-like.

Does this sound familiar or concerning? thank you for any info.

O.

Keats (budgie) born Feb. 18, 2011, and Raphael (budgie) adopted July 3, 2011. Finn, a Brown-Head Poicephalus, born January 4, 2010, has also joined the family!
My Brown-head Poicephalus makes the same sound. I'm not sure exactly why, though I've noticed he does it when he's getting sleepy but also sometimes when he's nervous. Maybe it's something they do to calm themselves?

I'd also love to hear what others say :) To me it sounds like buzzing and definitely insect-like.

Thank you Tamara! It DEFINITELY seems to happen when he's tired.
