My poor baby!!!!!

10 week old Stewie just learned to fly. I was going to clip him 2 days ago in the evening but decided to wait until the following day (yesterday). Before I got around to it he flew and could not turn. He flew into the sliding glass door and fell landing on the sliding track. He was in shock. I picked him up and he was out of it for an hour.

I looked in the forums and people said that they needed a quiet place to recover. He would not stay alone, he struggled to be near me so I held him for hours. Everything was back to normal (cheerful, eating, playing, chattering) EXCEPT for his poor feet. They are just not working properly. They stay curled, he struggles to walk, and he can not get on a perch. When I pick him up to look they open and close. When he is standing sometimes he can get his toes to correct themselves or they stay clenched...I am praying that it is a good sign since he can open them.

We took him to the emergency vet who said it is good he is eating and acting normal. She said he had a great grip and nothing is broken. She said he could just be sore and bruised but still has concerns. She gave me an anti inflammatory to give him for 5 days. She said to if he does not get better within 3 days to go see an avian spe******t and gave me some names to call.

Has anyone experienced this? I am so scared for him. I have been sobbing for 2 days straight. If I would have just clipped his wings the night before this would have never happened.

I hope Stewie is ok. Merlin has never done this, he was clipped severely when we got him & I had time to take him around & learn where the windows were. I let him tongue the window/doors. There are so many dangers our birds can get into.

I know. They are so fragile. I am so scared every little thing will hurt them. He has to stay in a clear plastic bin right now. I kept him in it from 6 weeks-last week. He LOVES the cage. Now that he is back in the bin he hates it. He gets very hyper and tries to jump/climb out. I am scared he will hurt himself even more while being in there. I have either held him or carried him around in a basket all day to keep him still. I am nervous because I have a wedding to attend on Friday and I don't want to leave him alone that long. I am even considering sneaking him in his purse/carrier just to make sure he is okay. I really don't want to have to do that though.

It's a good idea to massage his feet & get him to perch ASAP. If there is no broken bones there is no reason why he can't be in a small cage with the perch lowered so he can easily step up. I would be inclined to let him be rather than cart him around. He just need quiet so he can get better. I would say he has some nerve damage & swelling when he hit the track.
