I think Pix has hurt Bonnie's foot

Ok, heres what happened.

About a few minutes ago I had Serenity and Pix out of their cage to fly around and such - happens every morning. I don't open Bonnie's cage at the same time cause the lovies are strange with her when shes out of her cage (they do not play nicely with her at all - major bullying). So anyways the lovies are out having a riot. Pix flies around and lands on Bonnie's cage (when this happens she runs over to hang out with them, often hanging on to the top of her cage) and bites her. I'm not talking a quick nip, I'm talking a holding chomp. Bonnie begins to scream and flap her wings trying to get away and he didnt let go for something like 30 seconds (which is an eternity when that kind of thing is happening!). She got her foot back from him and managed to get to a perch. So I'm over there before he lets go (I brushed him away) and I see she's not standing on her foot. There was no blood, nothing like that (I looked very very closely) and in a few minutes she was using it, but she keeps holding it up when shes on a perch. About half the time she uses it and the other half of the time she doesn't. Right now as I am typing this I don't think she's having troubles with it but I am going to keep my eye on her.

Anything I can do to keep this from happening again other than keeping them in different rooms? She just loves being with the birds so much I'd hate to separate her. Her cage right now is right next to the lovies. Would putting a towel or pillowcase or something over the top of her cage work? I just don't want to cut off her light as most of her light comes in through the top.

Any thoughts?

Well Indigo this could happen even when they were hanging at the side of the cage, so if you don't want to seperate them you have to keep a very close eye on them(the little bullies) when they land on Bonnie's cage (the opposite as well) and just wish they won't do it again..

If they do, then I would separate them when each are out for everyone's shake..

Well, not too much worries about Bonnie landing on their cage as for the last few months shes been quite content to remain in her cage. Door open, birdy in. She seems quite content. I offer though. I think I might try a white pillow case on top of her cage though ... as in when the terrors are out ... to help protect her little footies.

Try putting a towel on the top of the cage, yes he can still get her from the side/front but at least she knows what he's like and keep those feet away from him when she's on the front/side of the cage.

Kito was after the Linnies the other day but he can't get his beak through the bars of their cage, in the end it was Kito who got a good sharp bite on the foot, Boy he screamed, but ever since he leaves them well alone. I put a towel on the top of their cage and Kito can't seem to move as fast on their cage as he can on his, so even when they are hanging out on the front of the cage, he just can't get them to stay still long enough to get to their feet. :04:

My little guys really freak out in the sight of Phoebus if I take her too close.. (I think if she landed on their cages they would end up with a heart attack!)

Who knows? Maybe they think of her as a predator?

I'm going to do that ... my lovies though have jet packs or something ... they move faster than anything. And I don't think Bonnie would chomp them. Shes really quite fond of them and shes a bird's bird - yanno?

I cover up Pepsi's cage when Popsicle is going around. Popsicle is a typical Senegal and things she is bigger then Pepsi. I don't want to risk anything happening to her.

Pix is fine ... right back to the male bird thang .... Bonnie seems to be ok, but I will be continuing to keep my eyeballs on her.

Popsicle is a real bully but she just likes picking on the cat and my boyfriend so thats not so bad.

misty got her foot caught on something the other day and only stood on one foot for awhile before she started using it again - just keep an eye on it. You said Bonnie loves the other birds I know Daisy loves being with other birds more than any other bird I've known. Would it be possible to get her a budgie friend? It might give her some company that would be a lot safer.

I should re-word that .... she loves the lovebirds. She killed her mate. Flung him from the top perch to the floor and broke his neck and then went after my then other budgie as well but I snagged him out of the cage on time.

Clyde, her mate, was the sweetest most gentle bird ever, as was pogo my rescued one legged budgie.

Also, Bonnie's foot seems fine. I will be watching her though.

ohhh so she only has eyes for lovies then (taking a deep breath glad no other little budgies would face her wrath)

Bonnie is literally hopelessly in love with pix. She sits there looking at him with little spinning heart eyes. Its cute and kindda sad all at once.

How is she treating the babies?Have you let her yet with them?

I havn't introduced Bonnie to the babies. She does not come out of her cage (by choice) and as shes been murderous to her cage mates I do not want to put them in her cage. She watches them, and sings to them, but she's not been face to face with them. Bonnie is a real home body. Her home is a proportionately huge cage though and she can fly around in it. She gets lots and lots of exercise, and she's healthy. I do not like to force things on my critters, but I do offer and encourage them to try new things and what have you.

Wonder if she would love him just as much if he entered her home.

Bonnie is a gal who knows her own mind, and she has made up her mind that she don't intend sharing her home with anyone. I'm glad her foot is clearing up now.

Bonnie's foot seems perfectly fine. I think it was a little sore (like when you stub your toe real bad) but no damage.

Thats good news, I'm so glad shes okay.
