I noticed Loqui's missing feathers under both his wings. The skin under though, seems normal, no signs of infection or cuts or anything like that, just pink chicken skin lol.

He just turned ten months. Could this be a sign that he's about to go thru his first molt soon?
Or is this a sign that something's wrong??

I'm kind of worried /: please help

Are you sure that he's missing feathers? Under their wings, the feathers are usually pretty sparse. Mostly body down feathers. That's because their wings provide the coverage & protection there. Though, he could be molting. I have 2 birds going through a molt right now. Probably due to changing weather

I was going to say something similar. There are usually bare bits of skin under the wings. If you're worried you could post a picture, but I think you probably don't have anything to worry about.

Well I just got my newest GCC & I looked under her wings and she's got a lot more feathers than Loqui does. But her feathers are also a lot brighter and softer than his. I figured it's coz she's older and might've been thru her first molt already and has her big girl feathers ??? I'll get a picture & post it soon

I'm just now realizing how difficult it is to hold a birds wings up and also photograph it -_________________________- those pictures might take a little longer than I thought. I'm gonna have to find someone to take them for me while I hold Loqs

Wing pictures are a bear to get... If it makes you feel any better, Lucy is 10 months as well and is molting feathers like it's nobody's business, downy feathers EVERYWHERE. She's pretty touchy about her wings but I just peeked quickly and she's got some chicken skin showing through too, it's not completely bare, but I can see where she's molted out the downy feathers. :)

I'm pretty sure what you are seeing is totally normal. There usually are not feathers under the wings. If you can get a pic -although it's gonna be hard it would help so we can see where you are talking, but usually in the armpit there are no feathers. hope it helps.

Andrea.Faerie- it does make me feel TONS better. I havn't noticed Loqui losing very many feathers, just a few here & there but maybe he is about to molt soon.

Tikazoo-I figured it was nothing serious, but still wanted to make sure especially since my other GCC's feathers are so thick & soft everywhere on her body including under the wings. Also Loqui loves being petted under his wings & I had never noticed that much skin showing before.

Glad to know I shouldn't be worring tho. I'll keep an eye on the situation under there anyway just in case c;
