Only I-81 because it is the easiest transport route. My local avian vet is out-of-town for weeks at a time right now & I'm looking for back-up.

The closest other avian vet I can find in south-central PA is 1 1/2 hours away. I tried the list from the Assn. of Avian Vets & also the sticky list at the top of this forum.

Ideally, I'd like to stay within an hour - so Hagarstown, MD (maybe Martinsburg, WV) north on I-81 to Lebanon, PA, or somewhere along the PA Turnpike from the Blue Mountain Interchange to maybe Rt. 72 (Lancaster/Lebanon).

Or anywhere inside that vague geography.

Anyone know anyone? Also, if you know anyone in that area you personally would avoid, if you could PM me that information, I'd appreciate it, too.

My Plan B would be Philly or Baltimore area, but both are almost 2 hours, one way, and I'd like something closer.

Any suggestions welcome - thanks!

Can't help you there but if you were to drive to Baltimore I could suggest too checking into Winchester, VA. There is an avian vet there, Vickie Kondik that I would recommend. I haven't gone to her personally but a very good friend who lives in VA has worked for her before. If this option of moving to VA works for me that's where I'll be going. I'm not sure how far that is for you but maybe about the same distance as Baltimore or maybe a little closer. Good luck with your search.

Now that I think of it, my vet told me yesterday there is a very good vet in Baltimore. Probably one of the same ones Spiritbird knows. I'm going to call her tomorrow to get the name for someone else here. If you're interested, I'll send it along to you as well if that's not too far.

Are u looking for an Avian Certified vet or just an Avian vet? Dr. Hall at VCA Smoketown Animal Hospital is not Certified but is very good with the birds. He use to breed birds and owns many birds himself. The # is 717-394-5542. Hope this helps. I have to ask a friend of mine what the vets name was that she went to because I would say stay away from them. U can PM me and I can give u the name and what happen after I talk to her. I just want to make sure I give the correct name, I know what happen and it was not good.

Thanks for all the suggestions -

IcyWolf, I did not know there was an avian vet in York, although it is still an hour away, it is fairly close. And Wulfgeist, good to know about the vet in Winchester. It is a little farther than I want to go, but still worth knowing because it isn't THAT far. (My Linnies came from Winchester, VA - I wanted a double flight cage for my budgies & the cage was already occupied by some Linnies, so the budgies had to settle for half of adouble flight cage . . . )

And Spiritbird - I've already passed your suggestion along to a friend with whom I'd been discussing how helpless we both feel with a bird-emergency in the middle of the night & nowhere to turn.

And Roxynoodle - looking forward to hearing what you hear!

She should be emailing it to me soon, along with info on an eye spe******t, which I know you don't need that part.
