Does anyone habe the VPI exotic plan for their birds? I was thinking about getting it for Rome, wanted to see if anyone had any experience with it.

I used to have this insurance for my dogs and cats. When the time came that I needed it for one of my cats that had bladder stones they paid very little of the cost. You have to go through reams of papers and get them signed by the vet also. I stopped getting any pet insurance because it cost me more to maintain it than what was covered. I imagine some have had good experiences with pet insurance.

There are many differant plans and types . You have to get the plan that suits your animal. There is gold coverage , platinum , etc..
Each plan covers a wide variety of health issues , spays , neuters, xrays , and spe******t surgeries.
All the plans require you to pay up front for everything , you jsut need a detailed breakdown receipt of everything that was done , most places give these out anyway . Make a copies of it , keep a folder of everything you sent in to them and the dates it was sent in.

The Plan will provide you with a form the vet signs , it's not involved at all. I found it easier to make copies of that form the vet signs and keep it in the pets folder , so when the vet is writing the findings down , they can sign the form , it just makes things go smoothly and quickly for all involved.
You send both the copy of the receipt ( some may want the origional ) and the signed form with diagnosis on it.
In a couple of weeks , you will get the reimbursment in the mail. And again , it depends on the coverage plan you pick. Some of them are really good , so do read through them all.

There are some plans that dont cover pre existing conditions and some that do , so again , read the fine print. These plans are put out there to help the consumer , so they are worth it if you can find one that suits you and your pet.

I have never found them to be a problem ( working in a vets office )
And I have seen very good payments being made by the insurances for very costly office/ER visits
