Hey guys,

I live in Newmarket, Ontario. I'm wondering if anyone can recommend an Avian vet in my area? The one closest to me is Dr. Donais, if anyone knows anything about him...
Also, what is the average cost of an avian vet visit? I will happily pay whatever it costs but I haven't got a clue what is average and want to budget appropriately :)

Any advice would be much appreciated

Thanks!

ps - Vino seems perfectly healthy, this is just for a regular checkup :)

hey devann, down here a"walk in", just to see the AV is about 60$, not bad really. I know people in places like LA Cali pay a lot more than that. Hopefully someone from your area will help.

$60 is around what my vet in LA usually charges. But I went to try this new vet in Dallas and my god, I ended up with a $600 bill! I was floored. At least I had my student loans to pay for it...lol. But I think around 60-70 unless there needs to be more testing done if there is a problem.

Thanks guys,
I was expecting to pay about $300 for the first visit, thinking they'd likely want to do some bloodwork etc. along with a thorough exam. This will be her first time to a new vet (her previous one is too far from where I live) and her first visit in about 3 years (the last time her previous owner took her in for a checkup)

If you want a full check up with labs to check organ function it can run as much as $300 or more in total in Maryland.

Hi Devann , I take our birds to "The Links Road" in Toronto , near 401 and Yonge Street ..... a full checkup with bloodwork will run about $250 to $300 ..... they are excellent there , but not cheap .... for emergency , I took my Scarlet to Ferris Lane Animal clinic , here in Barrie , when Jessica was egg bound .... they saved her life ! The bill was about $700 , but I thought that was very reasonable, considering that I wasn't a regular client , and had no appointment .... unfortunately, they don't regularly take Macaws , but good to know that they will make an exception for an emergency .... Cheers , Les
