Not wearing her beak down?

Ivy: Canary-winged Parakeet (Brotogeris versicolurus)
My little canary-winged parakeet is very non-destructive. She has several types of wood toys, a pedi-perch, and eats large pellets. Her beak isn't super long yet, but it seems like the sides/edges are too long because her beak is still slightly parted when she closes it, like it doesn't fit together right. There is a slightly transparent edge to her beak that looks like fingernail, and it's all the way around, not just on the tip.

Anyway, how do I encourage her to work on her beak? I've been praising her whenever I see her chewing on something.

try playing with the toys while the bird is next to you, but ignore the bird. it will want your attention so it wiil either:

1 play with the toys with you

2 attack the toys and destroy them because you played with them instead of him/her. then when he uses/attacks the toys, rewad him/her!

Oh!!!! That makes perfect sense! She tries to kill everything I touch! This will totally work. Good call.

so glad i can help! try getting a mineral perch too, that will help trim nails and file beaks, and when they chew it its good for them:D if she keeps it up her beak should be good in no time!

Slightly related question, what if even with all the chewing, the beak still gets too long? Should I bring them to the vet for a filing? I'm worried it might stress them out :(

I have 2 conures.
