I just recently noticed that my Green Cheek Conure's beak was peeling/chipped. I'm a new bird owner and I'm not sure if this is normal or not? Mango seems to have no discomfort by it but it never used to be like that. I've had him for a bit over a month now and he's 5 months old.

Not to worry, it's a natural occurrence.....a parrot's beak is much like our fingernails, they chip & flake too.....

If you see your feathered friend rubbing its beak along cage perches and/or cage bars, it is grooming its beak, filing off flakes...also, on the upper inside of its top beak, there is a ribbed area that looks somewhat like a machinist's file & when your hear a grinding sound, that will be a contented sound from your bird as it grooms the cutting edge of its bottom beak.....

Good that you're paying attention to & asking questions about things you don't understand.....

Not to worry as weco has explained :
A parrot's beak is muck like our fingernails, they chip & flake too.....

But did not mention that the beak re-grows much like our fingernails.

My African Grey Mishka chipped his beak when chewing wood on his swing.
Withing a few weeks it re-grew.
