It is a piece about 1/2" by a little more than that
a flap, actually, on the upper left side of her beak. (She's a Blue and Gold Macaw)

It looks clean, so I put a little Neosporin under it and
gave her a soft dinner, oatmeal and pumpkin and she seems happy.

She was screaming a lot earlier, and hubby thought maybe it hurt her, but when I check it and looked under it, she didn't flinch or seem in pain.

Oh, yeah, I also added vitamins to her water. I keep forgetting. I have Avian Medicine Chest vitamin powder, and the birds all like it.

I wish that company never went out of business, their
stress drops were the only thing that ever stopped Bubo from feather-chewing.

Anyone have any other ideas about the beak? I thought of glue, but don't know what vets use.

Hahn's macaw, RIP George, Jenday Conure
Is it a single layer or a whole chunk? Hahnzels beak comes off in layers and it just peels off and the underneath layer then takes over.

Bird beaks are like our skin...new growth comes in from underneath & pushes the old beak layer off.....normally, when you see a parrot rubbing their beak on their perch, cage bars or other surface, they're manicuring their beak...Lovey will most likely take care of it when she gets ready.....she should not have any pain unless part (not layer) of the beak is torn, like a fingernail that gets torn back.....

My vet actually recommended to clean/soften my birds' beaks with baby oil, then file the loose layers away with a nail file. It works wonders for my 'toos.
