Non-toxic. I've never had a bird that liked them, maybe because the leaves are hairy.

I am pretty watchful with the birds around the limited plants I do have inside, but I was outside and when I came back in, my son was sitting not ten feet away while the bird was nonchalantly munching the AV...Teenage boys make lousy bird-sitters, apparently.

Glad to know the plant won't kill her...but I am concerned about the ingestion of any dirt, too... hoping she doesn't get any illness from it....SIGH.... Plant is, needless to say, removed from window ledge now...and my one other plant in the livingroom has also been relocated to a less accessible place.

Yes African Violets are editable....It won't cost any harm....I specialize in African Violets, I grow a lot of them!!! I had a special one that one of my cat ate it and he killed the plant completely. Couldn't find a replacement plant of the same type, I regret I never started another one of the same plant as a backup....

LOL! Mikey, when I first read this, I thought you were saying it killed your *cat* completely and you couldn't find a replacement for it! :D

Oh no not my Fie Fie....lol....Fiyero gets away with anything pretty much even when he goes to my violets and eat them like salad bar....So we keep the violets far far away from his reach....I just started two new violets that I don't have in my collection so little Fie can't not get ahold of them or I won't have anything since there's only a leaf in each pot right now....I used to plant catnip for the kitties and they don't even want catnip, but they want my violets....
