hello everyone, I'm looking into getting a parrot. but 2 members of my family smoke. the parrot would be housed in my room away from it but its still going to be in the air. is there any good cheap air purification units i could buy and out in my room to remove all the in-purities? Thanks!

I have a couple of these([ame=http://www.amazon.com/Hamilton-Beach-TrueAir-04381-Allergen/dp/B00008R9PG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1257336600&sr=1-2]Amazon.com: Hamilton Beach TrueAir 04381 Allergen Reducer Air Cleaner: Home & Garden[/ame]) though I bought them for cheaper at a local store.

But, while I hate to be discouraging, no matter what you do for air purification, having people smoke in the same house where a parrot resides is a recipe for disaster. Would there be any way to get the smokers to go outside (and not near parrot room windows) to smoke?

Smokers transfer the nicotine from their hands to the bird if they touch the bird. I have a friend with an african grey who has a roomate that smokes and this bird is such a feather picker you would not believe. No parrot should be even close to cigarette smoking people. AG thanks for the air filtering information. I going to look into it.

There magic is their simplicity. There are so many new-fangled fancy ion charged warp drive plasma nuclear breezy whiz-bang devices on the market today but when you do the research you find that most of them do not work very well - its all marketing. None of them work as well as a simple HEPA filter.

The link I provided is just for a fan with a replaceable HEPA filters. I replace the filters every few months or so, they cost roughly $10-15 around here.
