Sick Baby Eclectus. Green urates! help :(

I've had my baby female for about 2 1/2 weeks now.

She was always an eager eater!

2 days ago, she started eating considerably less.

I'm also raising an white fronted Amazon and a green conure in the same brooder.

I Quarantined her right away.

As I used papertowles as a substrate, I discovered some alarming droppings.
Light minty green urates.
This happened after I fed her pedialite water solution to flush her crop.

She usually ate upwards of 40ccs and her crop took long to empty.
I assumed it was sour crop... but now im really uncertain.

Her brooder mstes seem to be just fine.

I'm fearing psittacosis or liver disease, since I was feeding her quite a bit

If you fear psittacosis, I would take ALL my birds to an avian vet ASAP.

I've never had a sick bird before.
But my worry is the green urates!

I just boight this baby off a breeder in McAllen TX.

He's never had any sick birds either.

But I was reading that over feeding and anorexia can also lead to odd colored urates.
Overfeeding can cause liver problems, hence the colored urates.

She is taking in food but with no gusto!

My first instinct was to take her to a vet, but unfortunately there is no Avian vets in town...

If you can tell us where you are located, I'm sure one of us will be able to find some nearby avian vets. Yes, you may have to travel a bits, but I believe it will be well worth the effort.

How old is this baby? 4, 5 weeks? What are you feeding?

It's always a good idea to quarantine all new birds, and also to get them to an avian vet as soon as possible to avoid possible heartache.

Not all Ekkies have a strong feeding response, and are notorious to be super slow eaters.

Border to mexico.


I know that Ekkies are notorious for being "difficult" but my baby girl was always so eager to eat.

And I noticed the change, right away!!!

The odd colored urates just raised a red flag.

Oh, she's 5-6 weeks

She took in 30 ccs this morning
But no feeding response like before.

Oh boy...you are right, there is absolutely no avian vet anywhere near you. You are a stone-throw away from Mexico. I believe you would have to travel to San Antonio for an Avian Vet, which is what....2.5 hours away?

Please start calling all vets around you and ask if any of them treat exotics. I know that people would say (and I would, too, normally) that you need to take your bird to an AV but the best avian vet I've ever had was not certified so there are some good ones out there. If you don't find anybody, drive the 3 hours. That bird needs to see a vet asap. It would not be the first time a breeder sells a sick bird and lies about it. I know of breeders that have sold birds sick with Chlamydiosis, PDD, Polyoma and Pacheco.
