Both are antibiotics; but I'm unsure if they're used in avian medicine. Has your bird been prescribed them? Did your vet tell you why? Why is it your asking?

Antibiotics are used to treat bacteria infections, that can be anything - a red puffy infection in a cut on a leg, or a respiratory issue... and lots in between.

Need more information really...

I do know that both are sold over the counter as "fish only" antibiotics. I would not even use them to treat my fish. They have been known to be cut with all kinds of nasty stuff so the makers will make more money.

They're human antibiotics too - which is how I know of them. Which is why I asked how, why, by whom, he came across them.

Clarifying:
Chlortetracycline is a type of Tetracyclcine (which is a broad spectrum antibiotic).

Don't know what chlortetracycline is generally used for, but I'm unsure if it's in Avian Medicine.

What was said on the bird medication? The generally pretty descriptive of what they're supposed to be used for.

Are you using it for your bird?

Bacterial infections, like I said above can be anything from a cut that's slightly infected, to a crop infection, lung infection, etc. I wouldn't waste my time with it, if your bird gets sick, take it to an avian vet, or a vet at the very least and see what they prescribe.

Taking medication is usually stressful for a bird, so you'd want to make sure you 100% have something that is going to work for your bird.

I do know what these are for and what they do. I fear you have a sick bird and do not want to take it to a vets. If someone gives you the wrong info, the wrong dose or you do it your self you could easily kill your bird. If you got these from a vet there would be info on them. I am sorry, for myself I can not in good consents tell you anything unless I know the whole story.

Mmhmm, should also mention, that tetracyclines tend to make animals sick from something else too. So shouldn't be used unless it's under supervision of a vet.
