I came home and I noticed the bell from Mangos Kings Cages rope toy was on the bottom of the cage and he chewed through the rope. I picked it up and noticed the little ringer was missing. I can't find the thing to save my life. Doors anyone know what this thing is made of, what kind of metal? Is he going to be ok if he swallowed this? He seems fine and is playing with my right now. I don't know for sure if he ate it.

If I sound crazy I had a bad experience with my sun Conure eating a bell from a cheap toy and was getting metal poisoning. He had to undergo chelation treatments.

I thought this was a reputable company that made good toys.

You might want to check to see if the bell is magnetic... if it is, you might try using a magnet to find the other piece in or around the cage.

If you can't find it, it may be best to take a trip to an avian vet to be on the save side and get an x-ray done!

oh no!, I guess the only thing you can do is wait and watch your bird.

while your on the topic of reputable companies that make toys, don't get me started.

I'm not sure if you've been following my posts or not, but one of my cockatiels Num Num got his beak caught in between one of the chain links on his swing, and broke his lower jaw in 3 places, ended up having emergency surgery. still to have many more re-checks at the vets, and possible surgery to have his lower beak removed :(....so how much fun is that toy eh?

I'm not sure what is with companies! do they not get it?? or maybe it's a lack of understanding on their part just how smart, inquisitive, and conniving they can be.
how many accidents have to happen before another bird dies?

I sure hope your bird did not ingest that piece, I'm not sure what they are made from, but I know it's not good.
my apologies for the rant.

I went through the whole bottom of his cage picking through bird crap. The piece is nowhere to be found.

I did a thorough search its nowhere near or in his cage. I guess tomorrow he is going to the vet.

Is it possible he could poop this thing out?

The idiot can't hold onto a pellet and gets more on the floor than in his belly and you tell me he was able to disconnect this bell and without it falling through the grate swallow it.

The chances of him doing this are slim but I thoroughly searched and cannot come up with it.

I swept the area with a broom, nothing. He hasn't figured out the game of throwing things across the room.

It could be farther away, I found the clapper of mine across the room, I think they fly off when the bell is banged around.

I honestly don't think he swallowed something as uncomfortable as a metal ring.
Also, I think, even if he did, he wouldn't be acting normal.
Maybe it's in this cotton fuzzy stuff of the toy.......just got tangled there somehow.....
I hope everything goes back to normal happy life soon.

I went through the same thing today. But I noticed the tinker part was in Rio's mouth. Now I had to get it away from her without getting bit. I got a chili pepper and gave it to her. She put the tinker in her foot and the pepper on her mouth. Then dropped the pepper. So I offerd some safflower seeds and she immediately dropped it. Hahaha nanner! I then inspected the the other bell which was also missing its tinker. But thankfully I found it on the floor. Whew! Hope you find it.

Oh, I am sorry, I didn't read your original post right...it's a ringer not a ring.
Well, that's also unlikely, I hope. It doesn't taste good. But he is a baby, so I can see why you worry now.

Can you gently feel his crop to see of you can feel for anything solid. Or would that not be a good thing to do?

I had a little feel of his crop just very gently as he is a baby. I didn't feel anything but some mushy pellets.

So sorry you're going through this. Hope you've found the ringer.

Say your bird did swallow it ( which I don't think he might have) ? How soon would you see symptoms of heavy metal poisoning?
