Bloody Foot?

PLEASE HELP

I was given a Rosie Bourke yesterday by someone who couldn't keep him any more. She seemed to really care about him and he looks very healthy.
Today I wrapped him in a towel to check his wings and toenails. I noticed that the inside of his (claw?) it looks really raw and bloody. He isn't acting hurt at all but is still scared and not yet settled in so I guess I wouldn't be able to tell if it was bothering him. It concerned me even more when I let him back in his cage and looked at the towel, there was blood on the towel. At least as much as the size of my pinky nail.

It's hard to say if you should be concerned without seeing.

Parrots have a vein inside their nails. When their nail gets cut or broken on that vein they will bleed. Often times it'll clot on it's own and you just have to make sure the area remains clean so it doesn't get infected.

Clean him up and see if you can find the site of the wound. It may require a vet visit and antibiotics and pain meds if its bad.

It looks like there is some skin peeling off or something? Its really hard to tell but haven't seen any blood on any perches or anything since. I've noticed he is only sitting on his softest perch today and he usually likes some of the others better. The lady I got him from only had one kind of perch in the cage.

Sounds like bumble foot but I'm not sure as I haven't seen it. If he is bleeding then you should take him to an avian vet as it is possible for him to get an infection.

What type of perch did she have?
It sounds like it may be a sore from the perch rubbing the area. It's good that he now has different types of perches to choose from. If this is the case it will probably heal on it's own. Keep an eye on the area, and if it doesn't clear up within a day or two, a trip to the vet would be a good idea.

Our CAG has a habit of hanging on the side bars of his cage, and will occasionally wear a spot on his foot.....but it always heals up quickly.

I hope you don't mind but how is your companion? Have you taken appropriate steps until you get him to an avian vet?

Here some things you can do:

Offer a variety of perches of different thickness and texture

Don't give them sand perches. It can damage their feet. If they're nails are that long you should trim them. Instead offer natural branches.

If you've noticed he prefers soft perches then offer him more. You could also put a bandage around other perches do make them soft until he's better.

Keep the cage and perches clean. If he has open sores he's at risk of infection. If he gets an infection and it goes untreated it could go to their bone, then the rest of their body. As you could imagine it could lead to amputation of feet or even death. I'm not saying this is the case with your companion as I'm not even sure it's bumble foot and if it is at what stage it is.
