Anyone have any thoughts on this.. I saw the post a few weeks ago about the birds with the cooking on cedar planks.

I have some white cedar I am planning on making an outdoor item with. None of the scraps will be used for anything bird related and just thrown away. When I do any sanding, when I'm done, I go upstairs and take a shower to get the dust off me, no matter what wood I'm dealing with.

Doing so, does anyone think there will be a problem with the birds, since they won't be exposed to the wood itself, and I'm not heating it up..

Or should I just abandon the cedar in general.

White cedar doesn't have the same irritant factor that red cedar does, but you should wear a paper face mask at least as the dust can affect some of us.....

You should be OK with your plan though.....years ago, 70s & 80s, I unknowingly used cedar shavings as cage bedding for a couple of squirrel monkeys I had, until I noticed them scratching more.....never put two-and-two together, but a woman I was dating got a rash, so out went the cedar bedding.....the internet was not the information superhighway yet, back then, but a lot of dial-up bulletin boards, if you could deal with the sloooooow connections.....
