Hello. I just brought home a baby greenwing macaw on Sunday. When we got home we noticed she had a little cough and some wetness in her mouth. We took her to the vet today and she is supposed to have 2ml of clavamox twice daily and 1 ml of fluconazole once daily. I have dealt with this once before with a sun conure a long time ago, and I have hand fed a parrotlet so I have a little experience with the syringe feeding. Obviously, conures and parrotlets are a lot easier. I tried to give my macaw her meds and she kept shaking it out of her mouth. I feel a huge lack of confidence, I am so afraid I am going to make her aspirate on the meds. It has been a long time since I have done this so maybe I'm not doing it right? How can I get her to stop shaking ALL of her meds out? what should I do to keep her from choking on her medication? Also the vet said she is a little male nourished and needs protein. She said to give her eggs and nuts. She won't really eat anything I give her except the food she was weaned onto by her breeder. So far I have tried walnuts, kale, boiled egg, carrots, and bananas to no avail. Thank you for any and all advise :)

Can you mix the medications in something she likes?

Organic fruit juice. Honey. Organic baby food. (be careful of salt content!) Greek yogurt. Almond butter. Mashed sweet potatoes. Mashed carrots. Mashed banana. Anything she likes and is willing to eat.

when I had to administer meds to Num Num(mind you he's a cockatiel and not a huge macaw), my vet said to give the meds under the tongue.

the second option was to give it a little bit a time, rather than one dose where they can spray it everywhere.
hope this helps
