I'm fed up, totally fed up with this stupid bird store.

anyone who knows me personally, knows I have spent my life treasuring and loving animals.

Breeding is one thing, but rescuing is in another league all on it's own.

It took my daughter to say something very wise to me tonight.
"Mom why do you continue to go to that store, when they treat the animals so poorly?"

that whammed me right in the face. I realized she was right.

I will never, ever go into that store ever again.
they will not get one more dime out me(trust me I spend plenty there)
then maybe they will realize that I was right all along and maybe should have listened.
Bye Bye to the neglectful, thoughtless store.
thanks for letting me vent, I needed to, it's been quite a night:mad:

Good for you Crimson! I think you are doing the right thing. Be sure to let others no about the neglect. If people don't shop there they will go out of business. Can you report them to the humane society?

Crimson, I applaud you for helping needy birds but am glad you will not go to that place again. There was no reason those birds should get that way under their care. Petco and Petsmart are not popular in the pet community but so far the rare time I go into the local ones I did not see birds in the condition those canaries were suffering. I do not desire to get a bird from a petstore anymore. Yes Freddie my budgie came from Walmart (way back when they sold other animal beside fish). He was not in bad condition. I did get a good cockatiel way back then from one of my moms friend that ran a ma and pap pet store. But now I will not chance it. Some petstores have rescued animals on display. One pet store has a iguana named Hercules. He had a rough life in the beginning (he lost some of his tail). Anyways there had to be some people that loved him because he loves to get stitches. He will just shut his eyes as you gently pet him. He of course is not for sale but I always say hi when I go in there.

Sometimes it is just best not to go in to see....There's only so much we can do to help but if you keep on doing it, they would profit from it and kept doing what they're doing....

Good move! If they are selling sick, mite-infested birds, then they are spreading it far and wide, because most will not know, bring a new bird home and infest the birds they have. They are a public health risk, I would report them. But like you said, what goes around comes around. It's just a shame they are causing so much mass suffering....and people keep taking sick birds home. They just don't want to spend the money or time to treat their sick birds, they don't care they just order up (or breed) more. Even their toys are suspect. They are knowingly infecting people's birds by selling sick birds, they know full well that it will spread when the person brings home a sick contagious bird to a multi-bird home. Yet they keep doing it. Which makes them scum. Douchebags.

It is hard to not go into places like that, knowing animals are suffering inside and wanting to help, but in the end we know that buying pets there ultimately lets the owner purchase and neglect another animal and then sell it. I had a horrible time accepting this and stopping my forays into our horrific pet nightmare! In the end, you help more birds by not going than by going. Of course, we are all glad for the birds you do have.

Yes, as hard as it is not to want to step in to help an animal in need, if they still sell them, they won't change. If they have neglected an animal so that it is need of medical and/or nursing care, they need to pay for it, they don't get paid for somebody to relieve them of their responsibilities.

Good, they had better shut down! There is a pet store around here that the birds are in tiny cages macaws and amazons in small, no toys and beaten up cages! their feather quality is horriable and they are so depressed! And the cages with the cats and rodent are caked with poo! The rabbit cages are filthy i know that you need to really thoroughly clean them and Joey is n a starter chicken cage, it so perfect, it is 3 feet wide and 7 feet long and it's all grass and the ramp goes up above ground so the critters don't get in and he has two nesting boxes one for litter box and one for sleeping and a little fiber glass window he looks out! And the sliding door on the top of the ramp closes and he is safe from the night! :) ok sorry I went on and on but I saved him from a place where he had 1foot by 1foot to sit on. Any ways about the store, the fish area is horriable and smells like dead fish! I am never going there again! Oh and the people are really rude! You have the right idea and your daughter is a very smart cookie there! :)

thanks, kq, although my pet store is not as bad as yours sounds, that sounds utterly terrible.
the clean their cages weekly, and feed the larger parrots good quality food: ie: pellets, leafy greens, veggies etc.... and have them out of their cages daily for hours....it just seems to be the smaller birds they don't give a crap about.
when they notice a bird is not well, they don't treat it.

Well at least they give them a good meal, they fed all the birds seed :/ Its so sad how smaller birds are so over looked! They are just as important and amazing as the big guys! :) Its funny how there is a place like what I said how they neglect so much and it stinks. Then there's the place where the birds are treated like kings and queens and the cages are cleaned every day and it smells so natural because they use Oranges for air fresheners! :) I LOVE those places!
