would you ask for a refund on labs if you never got the results?

as the title says.... Would you? Took my parrot in nearly 10 days ago and paid over $400 including over $120 for a culture alone. Was prescribed baytril. Bird seems fine now and is almost done with meds, but they never bothered to call with the results.

I plan on calling them tomorrow if still no word, but wanted opinions on asking for the refund first. I'd pay the money without a thought if it were necessary but $120 is too much to hand over without even knowing for sure if the test was even run.

If they did the tests, then i would not ask for a refund, but would let them know that i was disappointed in their lack of communication and ask for the results at that time.

I did get a refund on lab work once, but that was when my bird died before he even had the chance to do the tests. I called and he said since it wasn't done yet, he would refund the credit card for me.

I would also be upset not having the results, so let them know!

Sometimes it can take more than 10 days for a culture to grow out, so results would take more than 10 days. When I had cultures done 2 years ago it took about 14 days to get the results. I would give it till Monday and then call and ask for the results. Viral and bacterial cultures grow at different time frames also.

Certain lab tests do take some time to get back, yes. So I'd wait a little while longer, however, I WOULD call them and ask them when THEY will notify you of the results.

Best of luck with your bird. I hope he makes a full and quick recovery. :)

Also, welcome to the forum.

Yes, boysmom has an excellent point. I was assuming they told you when you would have the results and it went beyond that date. Depending on what they do 'in house' and what they ship, it can take a while. (Although I have always had results within a week, i'm sure it varies.)

Some times they will wait to get a full or near full batch of labs to send out to save on processing fees. Your labs may have been sent a couple of days later.
