OMG, Percy is biting his vent! Looks bloody? HELP!

I noticed just now that Percy was biting at his vent. I went over to take a closer look and it appeared like he's bitten himself bloody. However looking now, it doesn't seem bloody. He did it for about 3 minutes non stop (that I saw)m
He's stopped now but I'm still very worried!
I've changed the paper in his cage to watch for droppings.
Can anyone give me some advice while I monitor the situation? I am so afraid!!

I would recommend a trip to the avian vet, and possible a collar to prevent him from doing this again.

i fully agree with Boysmom, she has the best solution. PLUS, the vet might be able to find out why. illness in the digestive tract, obstructions, tumors, prolapse, etc can cause a bird to pick at their vent, so this should be a fairly concerning warning sign. if its just a case of mutilation, then all he will need is a collar and you will need to find the trigger and prevent it--of you can.

It's been an hour and he hasn't done it again. He has also pooped and it was normal, if a bit watery from the fruit he had. I will watch him and take him to the vet first thing in the morning if he does it again or I notice anything weird.

I kept him up 2 hours later than usual to monitor him and he still didn't bite the vent again. He's now gone to bed and seems normal and content. Will wait with bated breath for the morning volcano poop!

When you mentioned he was eating fruit... did he by chance have cherries or pomegrante? Both can look like there's been a massacre.

No, not cherries or pomegranite. He had strawberries, nectarine (pip removed of course), pawpaw and lychee.
He seemed fine when he went to bed and didn't do it again. I imagine his preening activities led him to that area and he just got carried away...?
Still awaiting the morning poop to double check. Six hours to sleep and then I will be up and on poop patrol!
