Puffy eye lid

Greetings,
Over the past couple of weeks, I've noticed that the right eye of my parrot has a "puffy" appearance compared to his left eye. I attached a picture of each eye for your thoughts. I know there is a vet an hour North of me, so I may end up heading that way once I can get some time off work.

Hi! One of my birds had that happen a few years ago. It turned out to be conjunctivitis. Some antibiotic drops and good as new in a few days. A vet visit might be a good idea. Good luck. :green1:

Riley's mom is quite correct, it could be conjunctivitis.
I would also advise a visit to a good avian vet.

You might need to treat both eyes .
But yel looks like its swollen.
do you have dust bunny's that the bird could of gotten into .
Im asking since i do not see any Discharge.
but i have not had this problem and thansk all i did not know Birds could get this .Tammy

Had the vet visit, and the news was not the best.
We went home with some eye drops in hoping this would clear up the inflammation in a week or so.
If not, then he suspects avian pox...

Sometimes it takes longer than a week to clear up inflammation. To be honest, we deal with avian pox in the wild birds, and it doesn't look like this. Wait and see what the meds do. Hang in there.

Unfortunately, the eye drops have had no positive effect after three weeks. So, whatever is causing the inflammation may not have a cure; Major Bummer in the home! Sure feel sorry for the little guy. Nothing worse than an irritated eye...

Over the past few months the eye has kept getting worse. We are heading back to the vet tomorrow to see what our options are. At the least, we'll take a smear and try to pinpoint the type of infection. At the worse, I'd be willing to have the eye removed if meant no more infection and discomfort for the bird.
Will keep you posted.

PS.
The lesson here is to have your bird vetted the next day off the airplane!

An update and lesson learned for all of you.

After three years, hundreds of miles on the road and more than a thousand dollars of bird vet visits, including one avian eye specialist we finally have an answer, not from an over priced vet but from my own wife. Seems the pet shop was out of the all natural wood based bedding we normally get for the parrot, so she grabbed a bag of corn cob instead. A few weeks later she noticed that the eye has gone back to normal. A hand full of wood based bedding brought back the puffy eye. Removing it cleared it right up. So, now after two months of corn cob he is recovered with absolutely no sign of any puffy eye! Our Lilac Crowned Amazon is allergic to WOOD based bedding!

Glad for the little guy, wish we would have thought of this sooner! So, be creative in your approach to figuring out your own birds aliments and never give up!

Wow! That took a long time to figure out, glad it's finally done though

Why don't you just use paper? I use art newsprint pads I buy at the store. It lets you see the poop clearly on a daily basis which is crucial and one of the first sign to detecting illness.

Out of all the shredded wood bedding, the only one I would use is by Kaytee. All the other ones I do not like at all!!!! What kind have you guys been using to cause the problem??

We tried several using everything from soft to hardwoods. The bottem line is wood products set him off, but corn cob does not: Problem Solved!
