I have raised my Blue Macaw for 4 months. He is a young one. But 1-2 day ago , he stopped eating anything and became inactive. He has got a little bit diarrhea. I've tried to feed him , he could eat but after that he vomited anything. His tongue became white like the image attached !
When i checked his craw, i found out it swelled ( as big as two knuckles )
Unfortunately, in Vietnam , we don't have any specialist bird vet. So What can I do now ? How to solve this problem ? Does this symptom affect his health seriously ? Will he die ? I really love him and I never want to lose him in my arm.:blue1:

If he's not eating and his poop is not normal, then something is definately wrong. I hope someone will come along that can offer some advice but your best bet would be an avian vet. I know you said there aren't specialist vets there so I hope you can get the help you need.

He may have yeast infection, sour crop, etc. You need a vet right away!!!! He will require to have his crop flushed out and administer medication. You should only feed when the crop is empty, proper sanitation of the utensils, proper heating of water to mix with formula, proper temperature, right mixture of water and formula, etc. What formula are you feeding him???

If there is an exotics vet locally, they often deal with a lot of birds, but work with other exotics too (reptiles, amphibians ext...), so that would be the next best option to an avian vet. Even a general animal vet will have SOME parrot knowledge and can prescribe potentially life-saving antibiotics for birds, so I would suggest you get in to see a reputable vet in the area (even if they aren't avian specialized) ASAP.

Meanwhile, make sure to get him into a "sick cage" setup and isolate him away from any other birds you have (as not to potentially spread the infection). You should get him into a smaller travel cage, carrier or even a towel-lined box (if he can't get out) and set up a warming lamp to help keep him warm. If you can, water is the most important thing he needs right now, so try to get him to drink a few drops at a time out of a feeding syringe or clean dropper. If he can keep liquids down, add a little apple juice (for the sugar) to try and get his energy back up. Here are some links to pages that describe the symptoms and treatments of common digestive issues in parrots:

Digestive Disorders of Pet Birds: Disorders and Diseases of Birds: The Merck Manual for Pet Health

Poopology - Identify Bird Health Problems through their Droppings

Hope he's ok.

a pale tongue can indicate a vitamin A deficiency. the woman who wrote the Just Cockatiels website is a long time breeder and someone I have known for years. She is who has helped me with my current problem with Munchlax.

Her advice on her site is very very good, if you cannot get to an avian vet, her information is the next best thing and can really help you.

I have read all the articles that you guys gave me. . So now , if in the baddest way ,I cannot find Avian Vet or someone who is an expert in avian. Because Hanoi they don't have vet who actually about bird. If I move my bird to Ho Chi Minh city , it can be an danger way to kill him. How can I solve this problem ? What I have to do now ?

You must be so scared :( I wish I had advice, but unfortunately I have never seen this before. A lot of people are probably sleeping for the night, and some of the most knowledgeable people might not be able to answer until tomorrow.

Until then, explain what his diet is as thoroughly as possible, how he's been acting(lethargic, slow, squinty eyes).

Is it cold where you live? a heat lamp may offer vital warmth if he is sick. make sure the lamp is outside his cage, and out of reach so he is not burned. A heat lamp with a dimmer is best so it you can adjust the temperature.

Try this one also. A poster on another forum said they offered help for his parrot if needed. This is what he posted:
Thanks again for all the great information. I will look on Hong Hua Tham for metal cages. Also stop by ASVELIS. They have a good reputation with local cat and dog owners. I did visit ASVELIS briefly before I brought the bird over. They (kindly) offered to try to help if she becomes ill or injured: avian vet care can get pretty specialized. But maybe they also have a line on pet suppliers.

@Goalerjones: Most impressive maneuvers with the research! This info just might save Rulesify's macaw!

I just love this forum and the way everyone jumps in to help. Nice!

@Rulesify: Hoping the best for your baby bird! I'll keep you both in my thoughts and prayers.
