I saw this on my FB this morning from a reliable resource.
Tests are not back yet, but please be careful. Admin if this is not in the right place please move it

Parrot Resource Centre shared Noah's Bird Nest's status.

Please read, warning ...

UPDATE 3/4/14: First necropsy showed systemic hemorrhaging of all internal organs. High likelihood of arsenic or strychnine ingestion. All environmental causes have been ruled out. Birds were eating a blend of Kaytee Fiesta and Hartz large bird Balanced Nutrition. All foods have gone for testing, necropsy performed in Washington State and blood work sent to Miami. Expect full report in 7 to 10 additional days.

Original Post: URGENT WARNING: A very dear customer lost two Congo African Greys overnight. Kaytee Fiesta blend is the suspected issue - Lots produced on January 26. Will have the lot numbers when available. Be safe and STOP FEEDING until we get the necropsy results.

We are not sure the food is the issue, but it was the only thing introduced new. There were no environmental issues. They both only ate a portion from a newly opened bag, not their normal amount. They were 16 and 14 years old and in good health yet both passed overnight. We are not criticizing any product but simply sharing a possible hazard for the benefit of our customers.

I know, be wary my friend. I don't use these products and the results are not back yet. From what I've read Kaytee is co-operative and is funding the tests but until the results are back no official recall can be issued.
It may not be the food but won't know for a bit.

OMG, thank you so much for posting this! Was actually on my way out to get a bag of food for Kiwi because the new kind I got him recently (not Kaytee) seemed to upset his tummy. I used to get him Kaytee Fiesta and Rainforest blends, and was going to pick up a bag of whichever was available because I know it doesn't disagree with him. Guess he will be staying on the grains for now.

Thank you VERY much for this information, Sandy! It is much appreciated. :)

Please, if you have any updates, let us know, ok?

Luckily none of my fids get either of the products mentioned. That is some scary stuff right there.

Hopefully they are able to get to the bottom of this quickly and that no more birds die if it is the seed.
Thankfully mine are not on this either.

HOLY CRAP! HOW DOES THAT HAPPEN?!

I feed mine fruitblend, but HOLY CRAP... it could be any of them!

Any company can have this issue as Kaytee went through it with hand feeding formula not long ago.

It seems to be happening with Kaytee a bit more often than others though...

Kaytee has had a number of issues with their foods in the past.
for that very reason I don't use Kaytee.

I hope they get to the bottom of this issue, those poor birds.
thanks for posting this Sandy!

I was thinking that too after seeing someone else mention their hand feeding formula being affected a few months ago. Just out of my own head, given the suspected substances were both rodent poisons and rodents tend to like the same food as birds, sounds like they may have a bit of a rodent problem as well as chemical contaminate problem (IF those substances come back positive on the necropsy).

There is a lot of speculation that it's rat poison in the comment section on FB.
In the meantime keep your birdies safe.
